USB-C Device Compatibilities

    Even though the manual indicates USB-C Thumb-Drive can't be any greater than 32GB, does anyone know if a 64GB device will work?
    Also, does anyone know if 'Ultra Speed(150MB/Sec)' USBs will work on/with 5th Generation Toyotas, or are SDHC devices the 'Max Speed' that will function correctly?

    Maybe, but you might have to work at it a bit. The car can only recognize drives formatted in FAT16 or FAT32. Pretty much all drives larger than 32GB come preformatted in exFAT or NTFS. You can try and reformat a 64GB drive as FAT32, but you'll probably need a third party file manager to do it. Windows can't do it natively, and I'm not sure if Macs can. And even if you do succeed in reformatting it, I can't guarantee it will work. I haven't tried it myself, so I can't vouch for it.

    And no on the Ultra Speed. The car is using USB 2.0 HS (480Mbps/53MBps) as its interface standard..

    Yes, larger drives work perfectly as long as they're formatted Fat32.

    Samsung's tiny 256GB drives are factory formatted fat32. Look for model # MUF-256DA/AM.

    Drive speed isn't an issue. The car only needs to read a flash drive quickly enough to play media files. And it can do that.

    Thanks Lantaral; greatly appreciate your input, but think I'll just go with Toyota's suggested thumb drive specs to avoid any issues. I used a 64GB drive in my 2016 Prius, but it had difficulty 'seeing' all 7K+ individual files/tunes loaded on thumb drive. When creating the file structure, I did certify all other Toyota parameters were met i.e. total number of folders/subfolders, etc...
    I accidentally 'shot myself in the foot' by erasing previous 'music library 44GB' on same drive by 'reformatting' it, then copying 'New Library 48GB' onto drive to add/update same, etc... Before I did so, the 64GB drive worked just fine and did recognize all 5K+ files on the same drive.

    Thanks Hammersmith; greatly appreciate your quick 'detailed' response and suggestions. Think I'd better stick with Toyota's suggested thumb drive specs to avoid any issues.

    Update: Since posting my inquiry, purchased 64GB USB-C/USB Dual stick; it's a Verbatim USB 3.2 formatted as FAT32. After completing copy/paste of my entire 48GB Music Library to it, plugged it into my 2024 XLE, but the Audio System did not find/recognize it; may have been due to the 3.2 speed
    Had also ordered 'USB to USB-C Adapter' and used it for my previously tested SanDisk 64GB FAT32(in 2016 Touring) for many years; it works fine, except I can no longer 'Select Complete Folders' and 'Shuffle Play' same. Will start 'new thread' re this issue.

    The 3.2 speed is not the issue. USB drives are designed to fallback to the speed of the device to which they're connected.

    Try reformatting the drive in fat32 and copy a few mp3 files to it. And make sure it's plugged into the correct port, believe only one of the car's USB ports is a data port, the rest only charge.

    I'm using my older thumb-drive USB3 - 256Gb with an adapter UBB-C / USB3. As long as you follow the <=255 files per folder rule - It works fine.
