Default Colorado Will Pay $6,000 Toward Your Plug-In Conversion

A new story entry has been added:

Colorado Will Pay $6,000 Toward Your Plug-In Conversion

Quote:
Need a reason to move to Colorado? Here's one: the state will give you up to a $6,000 tax credit toward converting your plain-old Prius into a snazzy PHEV Plug-In Prius capable of getting 2,500 miles on a tank of gas. Clayton Cornell over at Gas 2.0 put together a great article on the ins and outs, and he crunched the numbers for all you "When will it pay itself off?" people.

In the guys payoff calculation, he did not include the price of electricity. Hmmm

It looks like this bill is even an better deal for those in Colorado who just buy "Highly efficient hybrids (minimum 40 mpg)." A 2010 or 2011 Prius buyer should get 75% of the $6,000 maximum credit in the tax years 2010 and 2011. Look at the list on the bottom of this link and it gives many choices for the “Incentives for Efficient Motor Vehicles”, tax credits.

AutomationTech Inc offers affordable plugin hybrid conversion kits for Prius and other hybrids. The fully installed package is $4000 for 4KWH model. Plugin range is 40 miles per charge. When considering the CO and Federal tax credit, the total net cost to the consumer is only $200. It will take less than a year to get the money back with fuel saving. Those CO folks got it good !! They get bigger incentives for PV solar, and now this. I'd move there, but I'd have to make enough income to owe enough tax, to offset the PHEV cost. dang ... always a catch.

Flex fuel was a hoax created so that fleet vehicles could legally falsify their CAFE mpg's. They only count gas towards their mpg standards. (exaggerated example) Mix grain fuel 50/50 and you only have to count half the gallon for your mpg's. Thus, your 17mpg land barge 'qualifies' at double the mileage ... so the land barge builders won't get fined, for having such horrible fleet mileage averages (I can feel my teeth grinding) Oh wait! That's right, you get WORSE mpg's running grain fuel ... so the fake 34mpg would only be 29mpg ... but you get the point.

Don't even get me started on that scam.

Colorado is very lucky. I wonder when California will offer something like that?

I wonder if there will ever be a plug in upgrade option for the Toyota Camry Hybrid?
