Weather was nice last couple of days. Underside of car and garage dry. So I thought I'd scope out the jacking situation.

Had to take the car into the dealership under warranty as while parked over the weekend the RCD malfunctioned. Car indicated an error showing the Driving assist information indicator and the RCD in orange on the dash with a "System malfunction contact your dealership" error and an overlay on the infotainment system camera display saying "Camera detection error"

All the cameras (Both Front, Both Rear, Left and Right side) camera's all display an image, they replaced the rear camera today...

Upgraded from my 2006 Prius to 2025 Prime in late Feb 2025. Currently has 1655 miles.

I’m not mechanically inclined and looking for a dummy-proof way to maintain my 12V battery when I’m gone for weeks. I’ve read several posts here and many are too technical for me. Mostly, I’m nervous about leaving a battery maintainer on my car for weeks. I’m even nervous about connecting the cables correctly to the battery (since I’m not mechanically inclined).

I see the tank (front view) 3 to 9 is full of fluid, 12 to 3 is full of fluid, 9 to 12 is empty.
So it looks like 9:00, full the long way between hands, empty the short way.

How do it work?

Is there a vertical baffle for ?return? that overflows into the main tank?

Is it truly marked Min/Max both or similar? Front/side?

Special fill/refill procedure?

Is that simply a vent to the left (9-ish)?

I have a 2023 5th gen Prius plug-in with 13,800 total miles on it. I drive about 6,000 miles a year. I live in a mild climate, temps last year ranged from 33 to 90° with summer temps rarely exceeding 70.

Most of my driving is in the city, where I almost always use the electric motor. I only use the gas engine about twice a month when I go on the freeway.

For what it's worth, when I checked the oil it was clean.

I'm thinking, that under these circumstances, an oil change once a year...

Should I change my oil every 6 months or once a year?

Today I woke up with 2 warning light:

Then I took my multimeter and measured the 12V voltage, after it was sitting few hours. I measured 11.85V

When the car is on, I measured 14.39V. So the DC-DC conventer is fine. Only the 12V is dying and I have some questions about it.

Wondering what the general consensus is on Oil for the 5th Gen Prius?
I know the Factory recommendation is 0W-16 Synthetic however I have seen people opting for 0W-20 or some other alternatives. New to the Prius family and I'm trying to gather information for my own knowledge.
I live in Las Vegas, NV driving conditions are quite hot in the summer and 30's - 40's Fahrenheit in the winter months.

Steering wheel replacement for "System Malfunction Visit Your Dealer" dash warning

I had a "system malfunction visit your dealer" dash alert with a little orange icon (circle with rectangle and two orange marks in the rectangle). Dealer ran faults and apparently there is a defective sensor in the wheel, so they have ordered replacement wheel.

All under warranty, so other than a half day it takes to do the work, not really a big problem. My only question, is there any concern on having a non factory installed steering wheel on this kind of car? I would not think so,...

So, I think my car came with this damage upon delivery, but I can't prove it as too much time has passed. I should have done a more through inspection back then.

I was wondering how difficult it would be to replace this piece....anyone ever done it? These scratches definitely will not buff out, (white material at the junction of the pieces is snow....).

Has anybody had this addressed yet? I dropped my 2025 Prius Prime off yesterday morning for the software update that would fix this. After a few hours I was informed that there was some problem with the update and was lead back to get anything I might need out of my car. The tech had a laptop plugged hooked up and was explaining that the estimated finish time was 4 hours so they gave me a loaner and I took off. Got a message while driving that SUB-BATTERY SYSTEM MALFUNCTION back in April. Was able to clear the message by restarting the car. When the error popped up I lost the ability to use radar cruise control. Happened again a couple of weeks ago and my dealer called me while I was driving and set up an appointment.

5,000 Mile Oil Changes?

I was at the dealer today for my first free 5,000 mile maintenance. They basically just rotate the tires and check fluids. I had them do an oil change after I asked how much they charged-80 bucks which is less than I was used to with my MINI (aka BMW-$).

So, I'm thinking now, should I do 5,000 mile changes? I haven't done that for a while, having done 10,000 changes for my last several cars. I'd have the dealer do it.

My first dealer service visit was a positive experience.

Wipers Are Chattering

Any recommendations for wiper blade inserts that last? From day one my driver side wiper had a very slight vibration noise but someone said this is normal. Do others have this vibration? Now it’s chattering like crazy. I examined the rubber surface and it looks fine. I’ve never needed to replace blades this soon or had this severe of a symptom before replacing. Thanks
