Toyota's help line said they have heard you need to break in the battery... which sounded a bit suspect.

I usually take the ring road, then country roads and get an honest 2.8 l/100 km (84 MPG) and 50% of the battery, to do the 80 km (50 mile) trip and return.

Now that I am alone, and have the time, I did a few (4 returns) hypermiling, crossing the city, managing the electricity and hypermiling, but keeping the posted speed limits (which are low).

This is one of my best results, but I (and the car) am very consistent.....

I would like to know if it is just my impression or is it reality.

Does it make sense to use the Prius Prime in HV mode with a charged traction battery to reduce fuel consumption?

It seems to me that with the traction battery charged (plug-in) and using the car in HV the fuel consumption is lower.

Evey now has ~ 163,000 miles on her and my driving for work has slowed considerably. So, she will never reach the 512,000 miles I put on Ema. The Gen 2 Prius is one of the greatest cars ever made, IMO.

I purchased a 2018 Prius Prime 4 days ago and according to my gas gauge I’ve used a quarter of a tank driving maybe 45 miles a day. Caveat is I live on a mountain at about 3600 feet and work at sea level. I’ve been driving in “B” down the hill and charge mode up the hill. The first day I fully charged the battery before returning home and ran out of electric juice extremely quickly between 5 & 10 miles into the drive.

My question is, if I switch the drive mode to CHARGE Mode so that the ICE charges the HV while driving will my overall mpg decrease? Logic says that it will. I don't drive enough miles to test it in a timely manner.
