I wish the ScanGuage II showed real time mpg's. I don't think it's possible to be getting 32.4mpg sitting at a red light in my Kia Optima that is rated 31mpg hwy. I have preset the SCII (ie..2.4liter, 4 cyl. etc...)
GreeGuy33, I have and use the SC on my '08 with 10 or 12 XGauges programmed in, so I can claim some modest familiarity with it. I suspect that you are seeing one of the averaged-over-time fuel use guages; either the fuel used today, or fuel used on the current trip readouts. These would show a >0 number, even when stopped. I know there is a real-time, instantaneous fuel use XGauge too. It sounds like that's the one you want. With luck, one of the many other SG uses will come up and give you the codes. (Shhh, I'm at work!) In the meanwhile you could poke around using the search function here, or over at cleanmpg.com where there is lots of SG info for non-Prius cars.
Instantaneous MPG is one of the standard available gauges, you don't need to program a special Xgauge for this one. I have 2 Scangauges and "MPG" is an available selection on both of them. It's also referenced a few times in the manual, starting on p.5.
It's there. You need to go into the gauges menu, not the trip menus. If you want to see the trip/tank/day average along with instantaneous without flipping menus, then you need to do a little manual modifications.
Not sure I understand that one. It should refresh automatically (about every two seconds), once you select MPG in one of the four gauges that can be seen at a time. To be completely clear, after startup, push the Home button with the red circle. Then push the Gauge button, then choose any of the four positions and hit the nearby corner button until you get to the MPG setting. If the display goes blank after awhile, you may not have it set up for hybrid mode. (MORE>SETUP>FUEL>TYPE). Oops, your profile says you don't have a hybrid, so that's not the problem. In this Scan Gauge thread, I put up my version of a SG_II manual that might be more user-friendly.
SGII works great on my 06' (genII) prius with BTV and SOC custom gauges and of course MPG, RPM etc. standard canned gauges. My problem is it doesn't display SOC or BTV on an 03' (genI) prius, the canned gauges seemed to work but not BTV etc. Last night the 03 had a strange failure that caused the hybrid screen to display the dreaded failure screen with the three things, this was the PS faul in the middle. I shut down the car, removed SGII after it went to sleep from obdII port, re-started the car and failure was gone. So I have now removed the SGII from the 03' prius. Back to normal.. My guess is it'll only completely work on genII and later for SOC and BTV. Comments?
