LOS ANGELES (Dec. 2, 2009) – Toyota unveiled the all-new, third-generation Sienna minivan at a media conference today at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto show. The Toyota Sienna is well known as a transportation solution for moving people and cargo comfortably and efficiently. The third-generation Sienna will look and drive more like a sedan, conform to new ideas about personal comfort, easily accommodate cargo, and handle big loads. The aspect ratio on that screen makes me want to throw-up. Something tells me the hybrid version will be coming out as part of the mid-cycle refresh.
the screen looks to be able to have dual source, hence the wicked aspect issue. The second picture of the screen shows two different looking feeds, i assume (and arent all assumptions great) that you can go either widescreen with 1 source or standard 2 sources.
Oh I wouldn't be surprised. I thought they might launch one within a year of the launch of the new model (since the midlife update will be around 2013 or 2014). The fact that they're offer a 4 cylinder (long time since there was a 4 cylinder Toyota minivan.. but that was supercharged, yeah!) hints at that.
I was dearly hoping for a 4c hybrid version as well. But in normal Toyota methodology, which can move glacially at times, I guess the next hybrids we'll see will be the new 'Prius' models soon, smaller people mover, sports car, mini-sedan then followed by the updated Camry hybrid in about 15 months. We've already seen the 3.5L V6 + HSD update in the Lexus RX450h. Maybe they're going to concentrate all efforts on the Prius 'brand'. I think also that there may be an issue with battery availability this year. With the jump in the expected sales of the Gen 3 Prius along with the Sai in Japan there may not be enough batteries to go around.
While the mpg is better then last year and the 4cyl is a welcome (re) addition, they have not added direct injection yet. I was going to write how GM had bested this with SUV's but from my research, 26mpg highway is very good now for a mini van using the current MPG rating system. Two things have happened, heavier mini-vans (YUK!) and a harder MPG test. The Toyota 4cyl mini-van is going to have the best mpg in its class, similar to the smaller Mazda offering. I wish they had a 'smaller' model something in the sub 4000lbs category with even better mpg or a hybrid.
True. The question is, will they use the 2.5 litre or the 2.7 litre? Same engine, roughly the same size, it's just one is bored out to 2.7 litres. The 2.5 litre has direct injection I think. methinks the 2.5 litre so that it can do double duty in the Camry and RAV4 as it does on the Sienna and Venza
