Could someone in the know please describe to me the function of those odd plastic wheel covers shrouding what appear to be perfectly attractive alloy wheels...I am very tempted to remove them...other than protecting the alloys I suspect they may contribute (in some small way) to the fuel economy...otherwise I cannot imagine leaving them in place. Thanks for advice in advance.
There have been other threads about the 'wheel covers' - some say they're for aerodynamics, others say just looks. Many folks take them off (I'm one of them), I think the wheels look better without them and taking them off makes the wheels easier to clean.
I did search the treads without success on the '10 model... Anyway thanks for your reply...as I suspected its a case of chicken sh** on ice cream as my Grandpa used to say. I will remove.
Ahhh I see said the blind man...but did you search using the term from the Owner's manual "wheel ornaments" as I did? I would never have thought to search using the key words wheel cover as you did. I am shamed, humbled and beaten down.
Hi Penny's Dad, If you are going to remove the wheel covers, I think you will want to get center caps. Here's a post from the main center caps thread where I try to summarize info about the two types of center caps known to fit the 2010 Prius 15" wheel:
If the search doesn't yield results, have you ever tried modifying the search? like.. wheel covers? plastic covers? etc etc Anyway, they're for aerodynamic purposes, says The Chief.
