If I purchase a 2006 Prius with rear "roof" airbags, are they safe for children in car seats in the back?
Color me confused. If you are looking at a 2010 Prius and posted here by mistake, here are the safety features, any idea which one is a "roof" airbag? Toyota Prius Hybrid - 2010 Models: Prius II, Prius III, Prius IV, Prius V If you are buying a used Prius, and want a Gen 2, 2004 and 2005 do not have advanced side curtain airbags, 2006 to 2009 do. All of these are safe for children in car seats in the back. http://www.safercar.gov/portal/site...toid=bcbbe66aeee35110VgnVCM1000002fd17898RCRD http://www.nhtsa.gov/portal/site/nh...VCM1000002c567798RCRD&overrideViewName=Report They don't mention roof air bags, but neither does Toyota admit making any.
Right. I'm looking at a 2006 (gen 2) Prius. The "roof" airbags are located inside the pillars in the back of the car. Are they safe with children in car seats in the back?
I have no idea how to make it clearer than that. They use longer words than I do. I find no hint that any Prius has a roof airbag, since 2006 they have had side curtain airbags. This video may help you experience the side curtain airbags in action. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKnGans-JD0"]YouTube- Crash Test 2007 Toyota Prius (Side) IIHS with Side Airbags[/ame]
I found the term "roof" a bit strange myself, but it appeared in searches on the different option packages. (I'd post the link, but apparently I'm not allowed to) I didn't realize that curtain airbags were standard from 2006 onward.
Maybe it was an option? Because my 2004 has side curtain airbags. It lists it in the manual along with the embossed trim panels at the A and C pillars... Levi
