I forgot how convenient this artifact of the Smart Key system is. I headed for work this morning and expecting to work outdoors I was wearing Wranglers and my boots. My car keys don't fit well in my pants pocket, least not without being uncomfortable to I tossed them into the cup holder and drove to work. Upon exiting the vehicle I grabbed my lunch and tried to lock the door the usual way by pushing the black button on the door handle, I rarely ever take the keys out of my pocket and use the FOB. I quickly became annoyed when the car wouldn't lock and instead only gave me the "something is not right and I refuse to lock for you" beep. After checking the usual door is ajar stuff I said hell with it and tried to lock the door manually and then I walked into work and remembered my keys were in the cup holder! SNAP!!! Did I just lock myself out of my car and where are my spare keys located? Nah, the Prius saved me from stupidity and when I walked up to the car to and grabbed the handle I found that the car wasn't even locked. I love my Prius.
Been there, done that ;-) I used to get annoyed too, until the Prius proved me wrong every time. Now I just sigh and think "what stupid thing did I do now?" There is a *lot* of subtle smart human ergonomics that went into the Prius. A lot of it is through a BEEEEEP
Don't get cocky! There is always -some- way to defeat intelligent electronics! When you find it you will be locked out!
Roll down driver's window: With Ignition on, get out of car and close door: Reach in and lock door: Reach in and turn ignition off: Reach in and hit auto window up switch: voilà ! ! .
