Jerking Forward While Stopped

After stopping (and usually when slightly angled downward), when the gas engine stops the car jerks forward as if someone lightly hit you from behind.

Is it my sensitivity to the hybrid system or are others also experiencing the "phantom rear-ender?"

Sensitivity. When the ICE kicks on or turns off, there is some torque applied or removed from the drive train. It's normal. If you keep your foot on the brake the car doesn't move.

Can you take a photo of the intersections where this happens?

    Any ice about?

I got this twice today with the Prius III I bought a week ago, when the car was parked. Yes, it seemed as if the car jerked forward when the engine stopped. But I think it is a normal thing - we're just not used to it since most non-hybrid cars don't have the engines stopping when you're at a light or idling.

Happens nearly every time my cold engine starts up (w/o brake on)... it just a very light jerk, enough to rock the car on the pawl.

I have had a lurching sensation when going over manholes. Fortunately, when I applied the brakes, i had control over the car. i did not like this happening. I have not reported it to my dealer, abut I think I will now after having read the article at msnbc.com about the prius and brake problems.

This is not the same issue as that described by the OP. What you are describing is a loss of traction, which forces the Prius to transition from regenerative braking to ABS friction brakes. This is normal.

I solved this problem on my 2010 prius by upgrading to Akebono brakes

This thread died 10 years ago and the OP has never returned, but it originally was about the car feeling like someone lightly bumped you from behind while you're stopped. I used to get this in my '05. It took me a while to figure it our, but it had to do with the warm-up stage it was in. It only happened at a certain point in the warm-up and didn't do it before or after that temperature.
