This morning I had to meet some faculty colleagues to discuss a new class I'll be co-teaching in a few weeks. We met for coffee/tea at a local coffeehouse/cafe in a very cool little town. I parallel parked [Side note: First time I wish I had a V, just to impress the locals!] my Barcelona Red G3 SR/SC alongside the passenger-side curb on a one-way, three lane road in front of an herbal/massageoil/homeopathic store (it's, just that kind of town- in fact, it's officially a "nuclear free zone"). I like the town, it's quaint, sophistacated, hip and very, very, very liberal. I could have parallel parked two spaces ahead and would have been in front of a blue G2 with HOV stickers, but I took the first space on the busy street that was available. I was a bit worried about the beat-up truck behind me clipping my driver side rear fender/tail light when he exited as I negotiated the parallel parking, but saw in my sideview mirror the driver was sporting long dreadlocks and a striped beanie cap...so I figured he was not the hurtin kind. Stereotypes be what they will. So, to make a long story short, after an hour-long, very productive meeting (Earl Grey, in case you're wondering), I returned to my car. As I walked down the sidewalk I saw my car from a totally different perspective.. I initially didn't recognize it. The black glass moonroof and solar roof struck me as so different than I've ever seen it as before. I almost always approach my car from the rear, at home and at work...and this was the first time I've approached it from the front. I swear, I didn't recognize it at first...but still immediately though, "Hey baby, you're sweet- but where's my car?" It was a weird sort of disconnect that made me appreciate my G3 from a totally different perspective, literally. Anyone else?
I've done it before. On the Prius it is usually at some odd angle and only when I have the 17" wheels on. On my Corvette it would happen all the time, especially if the GF was driving it. I'd see it going by on the other side of the highway and think "Ohh snap, there goes a 360 Modena!" Then I see her waving at me and realize it was my car which isn't a Ferrari. Haha
I really want to see under the car...I wish it wasn't so low to the ground. I will have to be present when the tires are rotated...
