Read the following this morning and thought a UK view of the Detroit Motor Show might be interesting to some of you. It is most intreguing to us that America has so suddenly gone from the big gas guzzling trucks to hybrid and electric vehicles so quickly. Almost revolutionary? BBC News - Detroit motor show goes electric http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8446617.stm
At last year's US International Auto Show, the favorite colour was green and the word for the day was hybrid. I don't think much has changed in a year.
I heard on the news this morning that Chevy will be highlighting their new Volt concept vehicle. So no; not a lot has changed.
First of all, I know it's an innocent typo, but Detr-"Oil" autoshow is subconciously probably more accurate. Secondly, I do believe change is coming. But I don't trust most automakers. Ultimately they will strive to create what makes them the most profit. Right now with the economy in a downturn and the success of The Prius and recently The Honda Fit, they are all paying lip service to "small and green". Not that with The Volt, The Plug-In Prius and The Leaf, we aren't going to see more electrics and hybrids but as far as sweeping change? I'll believe it, when I see it. I think The Fit has shown that a high quality versatile small car can be sold at a premium and create a profit...so hopefully that will result in an influx of better choices.
