Hi all and happy holidays recently i had the CEL ( Check Engine Light ) go on, its been 4 days now and the light is still ON not blinking tho. I read thru the forum here and tried the gas tank lid trick, but that didnt seem to do it. I've had my prius for about 4 months now and i love it even more every time i get in and take it for a run. It has driven a good deal since it was a cab in its previous life all together it's driven about 300 000 km But still going smooth ( knock on wood ) mashalla ( in arabic ) Anyway, i figured since the cel was lid it must be the motor oil that needs a refill, now 2 days before i bought it...it went thru its regular service at toyota and it cleared well, not sure if they refilled the engine oil og changed it but all was good. What else can i say...yeah i live in Norway, a pritty cold climate as of now its about -10 at daytime and presumably colder at nights. I have to admit that the day before the cel went on, i drove it a little hard....not over 100km\h but still i pritty much had to since my wife was in labour dont worry i was extremely carefull for those of you who might have had the thought that i was reckless. Anyway the day after that the cel was lid and now 4 days later still. I did check the oil earlier today, but the engine was still on so im sure it wasnt acurate, but most of the oil dencity was under the second pin, more like closer to the first pin. So wich oil should i go for and how much should i put in ? Also there is another red'ish liquid in the middle of both the engine and the battery, i presume its for the engine cooling , or radiator water...not sure how its called in english at the moment. That one was on the minimum so it does need a refill as well. As i checked i also realised that i needed to fill up on window washer fluid as well, so i thought....could it be that the CEL lights on when you need more window washer fluid ? Well yeah i guess thats all thank you and happy new year
The CEL will come on when an engine system is having a problem. It is not going to come on just because a fluid level is low. More likely, it is on because you have a cylinder misfire. When were the iridium spark plugs changed? The normal service interval is 120K miles (200K km). The reservoir mounted on the inverter is the inverter coolant reservoir. Toyota Super Long Life Coolant is the correct pink coolant. While you are at it, look for the radiator reservoir mounted behind the radiator and fill that as needed. Regarding motor oil, use 5W-30 viscosity and fill so that the oil level is below the top dimple on the dipstick.
hello again i thought i'd update you all with what has happend to me lately Before i start let me say that all my car fluids and filled so dont think about those. The engine light is the main concerne After a 22 day struggle with this light beeing on constantly it wouldnt go away, it would light up at engine start and keep beeing lid until i turn off my car. Now 2 days ago i talked to a Toyota employee and he told me this : If the Engine light comes on, without blinking AND you dont feel that anything is diffrent with your car for example : Noises, sounds, fuel efficiency, different electrical problems and all is as well as it should be then all Toyota really does is RESET the light after a chekup. Anyway....one day after i talked to that guy BADABING the light went off....didnt light up anymore....all by itself. Didnt do anything at all, and it took 22 days from when it started until it ended. Now the only think that i realized is that it went on when it was extremely cold outside at nightitmes arround -20 Now the weather is more stable and its -10 at nights So i figured that it might have been the icy cold. Anyway....thank you all for a wonderfull forum and good luck to the rest of you out there.
You should pull the codes by borrowing a code reader from some auto part stores - just to see what it is trying to tell you. It could be a symptom of something that could be problematic later on...
i appreciate your concerne and your general intresst in this matter, and i will do exactly that if either the engine light comes back on again or i find out something that isnt supposed to be there
