Tuesday morning, C-SPAN, Washington Journal, enjoy: * Jim Campbell, General Motors Company, Chevrolet General Manager Good questions: GM has announced a noise generator on the Volt for the blind. Are you also putting them on the two-mode hybrids? How about the Saturn? Why can't we find a description at the GM web site of all GM hybrids having noise makers for the blind? * Susan Cischke, Ford Motor Company, Group Vice President Will we see a hybrid minivan soon? * Jim O'Donnell, BMW of North America, Chairman & CEO Top Gear showed a BMW M3 getting 19 MPG versus 17 MPG in a Prius. Do you believe this is a truthful mileage claim? Bob Wilson
Jim Cambell, GM, "We have a five part plan." They are still dealing with PowerPoint engineering. Weak engineering descriptions. Susan Cischke, Ford, solid engineering answers. She deftly pointed out the problem of swapping batteries in wet, salty environments. She also referenced Ford's operational experience with hybrids and NiMH batteries. Bob Wilson
The problem with getting top gear to push BMW's claim of better MPG's than a prius, is that you have to be sustaining what ... about 100mph? Since those speeds are 40mph over the speed limit ~ and by the same stupid logic, BMW should weigh in the cost of higher car insurance, much less the even higher insurance cost after several speeding tickets. .

That's completely truthful in context - if you're on a race track alternating between stomping the brake and gas pedals all the way to the floor. That is a context the M3 was designed for. The Prius was designed for normal use - and guess which car has better mileage then? (by more than double)
