Toyota Faces U.S. Congress Probes on Accelerators (Update3) - Bloomberg.com EDIT: Autoblog too. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/29/second-house-hearing-on-toyota-pedal-recal-scheduled-for-feb-5/
Big deal... many have faced congressional panels and haven't so much as a slap on the hand. In fact, I can't think of thing substance ever coming from these?
Really does not your congress have more important to deal with First it was the baseball drug BS now this Should not they figure out the banking BS and get people back to work first
What's Congress going to do? Talk about it, draft something, realize they are paper thin on a majority and redraft it, send it to the senate where it will get rewritten and watered down and then sent back to Congress who will sit on it, stall, and give in to more concessions. I'm sorry, what are we talking about again?
Sounds like this is all about saving the U.S. car companies. What's strange is Consumer Reports has had Honda and Toyota as the most reliable cars for many years based on their extensive polling of owners--including me. Further, their head engineer said the accelerator problems being talked about would probably never be experienced by Toyota owners. So, what is this about? A couple of unexplained accidents balanced against millions of cars with the best reliability record in the industry? Something doesn't smell right here. I already know that the accelerator business with the Prius is a bunch of crap--because I drive one. The floor mat is secured much better than some other cars I've owned.
Talk about it, make enough noise to get on TV in front of the voters. All the rest is extraneous, unless it becomes necessary to get back on TV in front of the voters.

Since Congress has an interest in consumer safety, and because a government agency is involved, I think Congress certainly has business getting involved. But I agree it's grandstanding and a waste of time and money.
Conflict of interest. If I were Toyota I would refuse to participate in anything the US govt/congress tries to do. They -own- GM, one of Toyota's major competitors. I'm crying "FOUL"!!!
