I tried a few ways to search the forum. But frankly I am not sure what to search on. My Prius lingo is not high. But in general, where is the low-end, basic Prius? Will it even get here if it isn't already? Went to my local dealer, Beck Toyota, and they said that Toyota never intends to sell one, in their opinion. So, I would like to learn as much about the base model as I can. Point me in the right direction. Thanks to all.
Its for rentals and fleets users only. I think Toyota wanted it to compete with the Insight but as the Insight has turned out to be a yawn its not necessary.
From what I remember, there was talk about the Prius I, but they only made a few hundred cars. As far as I know, the Prius II is as low as it gets
The equivalent of the most basic package I - the L - is sold in Japan. It is usually a company car as there are a lot of differences to the comfort related things, insulation, etc, to get a lower weight and higher fuel economy. Normal speaker configuration is 6, but the L only has 4 for example. There are a number of options that can`t be chosen for it. I believe there is a list of differences between Prius models in various countries - I think that the listing for the L in Japan will probably be the closest to the info on I in the US.
I suppose in North America, the P-II is the de-facto P-I. If that is going to be the case why not just call the P-II a P-I? P-III to P-II and so forth?
because the PI is available to fleets only. Makes it easier than calling it a Prius II Fleet Option or whatever they would call it.
could it get any lower than the prius ii? What are they going to take off next? the ac? lol or make plastic seats?
No EV Drive Mode, rear wiper, wheel covers, tonneau cover, touch tracer, rear seat heater ducts are some of the few features that are missing.
Lessee, basic 4 speaker radio/cassette (do they still make those?), no SKS, steel wheels, no auto climate control, no steering wheel controls... anything else we can strip off this puppy?

Not much and none are quite different when it comes to road noise, heating, cooling, etc. Even a single thin sheet will make a difference.
does anybody know for sure if they have steel wheels? if so we could get the part number and order them
