So for those who don't have a backup camera and are wondering "how does it look like when it's dirty?", well wonder no more. Outside: Inside facing the sun: Inside away from the sun:
That's one thing I envy about the nav system: the big screen. I have the backup camera display in the rear view mirror which is like 2" diag at most. Another thing I envy is the Bluetooth audio streaming.
That's one reason I sprung for the Tech Pack. I saw the camera in the mirror and while it is better than nothing (since you just need to know if there's something there or not), it's a lot easier to see on the big screen (esp. since I don't like using my mirrors to back up, I'd rather look out the rear window as I was taught by YoungDrivers). I haven't used BT Audio yet. Would love to try it out. (don't have an iPhone/iTouch or equivalent)
Wish my wife was as dirty as that backup camera.... Seriously, I'm impressed that amount of information got through with such a caked on amount of dirt. Hard core Garmin users would feel the opposite. They'd kill for the backup camera display in the rear view mirror if they could avoid the factory NAV and stick with their Garmin.
Ya,looks like you have the same roads as we have in MN?? Had my car two days and it was like this!!We get 2 inches of snow here and they dump 100 pounds of salt per mile! They just built a new car wash near me,$3 dollar touchless or they have 50 cent Tuesdays do it yourself.!It's hard to keep your car clean here,Hopefully the snow will end soon. 50F here today snow is going fast it's almost over!! Scott
Actually, that's a parking lot. Our roads aren't that bad lol. They're rough at spots but they don't look like the pictures above. I'm surprised you guys use salt. We use sand/gravel cause salt won't work below -10°C. It's been above zero for a week now. I washed it last week after I took that photo.
I believe if you have a cell phone that supports MP3 and bluetooth, you may also be able to use that to listen to the audio. I'm not positive on that, as I have an iTouch so have no need for MP3 on my Blackberry. I figured out an easy way to clean the camera when it gets dirty: lick your finger and then wipe it off. Just make sure you don't try to, um, rinse and repeat LOL. Or, if you take a bottle of water to work with you like I do, you can just use a tissue or something to wipe it off. It does do quite well even when dirty, I agree.
I don't care for the factory nav. I just like the big screen. The 10 digit display on my JBL system doesn't even scroll so you can't read the entire text on XM. How retarded. I just bought a TomTom XL335S @ Walmart for $150 for nav.
Thanks TP for posting the pictures. I upgraded my HU and held off on the camera cause of the extra $. I was wondering how it would work and now I know. I wonder if there is some alternative way to mount the camera to alleviate this problem but still have a good view?
Neither can our 7" nav. I think it's 14 char though... I could be wrong. Good to know! I have a RAZR so I don't believe it supports MP3 audio. (it's not an mp3 player/phone like the KRZR). np! I do not know.. look at the pic you posted and find the area with the least crud!
It cleans when I wash the car. But if it needs specific cleaning I just use a microfiber cloth with some car washing liquid with water and wipe it.
