I live in the NYC area and those who live there are probably familiar with the merge from the Van Wyck Expressway to connect with the Belt Parkway going towards Brooklyn. It's a terrible merge because you have to stop at a light and then merge onto the highway. Adjacent to the highway is a service road with four lanes of traffic known as the Conduit. Anyway, the merge onto the Belt was slow so I decided to stay on the Conduit. In my rear view mirror I saw a police car with lights flashing and I knew it wasn't for me. He was after some older American car. I continued on my way and then at the next light the SAME cop car is blocking all three lanes of traffic except the left lane which is where I am at. He motions to me to go to the right. I had thought that there was some type of incident. Heck, I had no idea it was the same cop that was behind me before. I go to the right and proceed unbeknownst to me that I was the person he wanted to pull over. Anyway, not knowing I was the target I continued on my way. Well..... this cop went wild!!!! I see him in my rear view mirror and on the loudspeaker he says, "PULL THAT F**KING PIECE OF SH*T OVER, YOU F**KING BASTARD". "PUT YOUR HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND TURN THAT PIECE OF SH*T OFF". Obviously I obeyed and when he got out he was fuming!!!! He told me that he was initially after the other car (I later learned it was because the guy was on the cell phone and wasn't signaling). I literally calmed the cop down and he claimed I was doing 61 in a 40. Now if that were the case, wouldn't I be the target before he picks on some putz on a cell phone? Secondly, I saw the cop and no way in hell am I going to go 61 with a cop a few hundred feet behind me. Anyway, he said to me " I constantly pull over people in these hybrids for speeding". I further placated him by say I don't give a damn about the environment, I just want something that gets good gas mileage. I also said in thirty years I'll be six feet under so I don't give a sh*t about the planet. He then became really calm and friendly. He gave me the speeding ticket but said he may not show up and I can reschedule up to four times. I got home, took a Xanax and now I'm nice and calm. On another note he asked what my plate stood for. My plate reads SINEP. I will not tell you what it is because you guys are smart and will figure it out. My fast thinking created a reasonable acronym and he was satisfied. NYC cops are an interesting bunch!!!
P.S. I'd have filed a complaint against the cop for public profanity. There's no call for that. Personally, I've been pulled over a few times in my life, and the cops have always been polite and courteous. For that matter, the Air Force guards and cops and jail guards I've met during my criminal career have always been polite and courteous as well. It's only prison guards (prison and jail are very different institutions) who have been (and usually are) foul-mouthed, abusive, disrespectful, and generally disgusting. I've never been pulled over or arrested by a rude cop. (But then, I've never committed DWB. That one can get you into serious trouble with some cops.)
That can't have been a real cop. Real cops, including ones in NYC, are held to *much* higher standards of professionalism, or they're OUT. If this yutz really was sporting a NYC badge, you need to find out who it was and make sure it is *ripped* off his chest by his superiors and he flips burgers for as long as it takes him to grow some humility. . _H*
Cops can really freak out if they think that their authority is being questioned. A real example of this is the Oklahoma trooper who tried to arrest an EMT enroute with a patient because he thought that the ambulance driver flipped him off (he claims he did not).
That reminds me of the guy in CA who had SMEGMA on his license plate. They made him turn the plate in because it was "offensive." Now you have to explain what your acronym means on a form and get it approved before they'll give you a custom plate.
Yes, it is true. If you want a personalized plate, you have to explain what it means and they reserve the right to recall it at any time in the future if it is determined to be "offensive".

Hey guys... let me explain why I have such an odd plate. There is history here. When I wanted to trace where companies were selling my email address, I would use a name as Jason Sinep. Jason is my middle name and Sinep backwards is ...well... now ya know. On a dare, I went on the DMV website and SINEP was available. I said... Wth,,,, I'm gonna get it. I am NOT going to renew it. Way too much attention. Just the other day some kids pulled over and screamed SINEP backwards!!!! I tried ANIGAV (hey it could be a Russian surname) but it wasn't available. Sooooo back to the issue at hand. You guys are right but I'd be fighting a losing battle. The cop would deny he used any profanity. At this point, I really do not know what to do. I could contact the CCRB but that may be a losing battle as well. Trust me when I tell you guys that I was in no way rude to this cop. I truly was clueless as to what I had done. Bottom line, the cop had a bad day, and he took it out on someone with a hybrid. This guy really hated hybrids. Now I know what minorities have had to deal with all their lives. I think that's a fair analogy.
