:rockon:I'm picking up my new 2010 Prius Monday and can't wait. Any suggestions for the new Prius owner is appreciated.
That is great! There is a good thread about what to do/say when picking up your car. I will see if I can search it up... Welcome aboard!
Absolutely awesome! Spend time browsing the site, you can learn something new in nearly every thread here! Also, seeing as you live in a colder part of the country consider an engine block heater, it will do wonders for your MPG and cabin heat when you first start out on those cold mornings!
Wecome aboard and Enjoy I have mine now for almost three months How time flies when you are having fun
Do yourself a favour and read the owner's manual - honestly - more than half of the questions in this forum can be answered often by reading the manual. It takes time, but you are about to own a non-conventional car, with innovative and advanced engine technology. Take the time to read it - it is time well spent. You might not have to read it all, but at least browse through it.
Me too, I'm leasing with the promotion that ends tomorrow ($2K down, $199/month). I test drove it on Saturday and am finalizing tomorrow at 9am unless there's any reason not to -- and so far there isn't!
I, too, just picked up my 2010 Prius V w/AT on Saturday...and the best advice I can give you is to keep your eyes on the road...I spent _much_ too much time with my head down fiddling at the gadgets. This car compares very similarly to "glass cockpit"/technically advanced aircraft. Learning all the switchology can be time-consuming, and definitely takes away from your situational awareness. They should take a page from aviation and give us a mode to learn the system without excess draw on the battery. I was worried about depleting the small 12V battery so I left the car in "Ready" mode while I practiced w/the switches - not the most efficient method. In any case, drive the car home - resist the urge to play with its functions - until you arrive safely at your own house and then you can practice w/the options/features while you read the manual.
Congrats and yes do keep your eyes more on the road than on the dash. I have nearly been in a few accidents because I kept my eyes a bit longer than needed on the dash.
I honestly had more issues understanding how the Mercedes C180 Kompressor I rented last month for a biz trip worked, than the Prius. The real "distracting" thing is all the charts/graph about the fuel consumption. Don't focus too much on them, it will not improve your FE - anticipating traffic and driving sensibly will...
