My 2010 Prius beeps internally and externally about so many things it gets hard to keep track all the possibilities. I thought I had them all figured out finally when a new beep started recently. It occurred seemingly randomly when getting near the car, getting out of the car, unloading groceries, etc. I spent some time with the manual and experimentation to see what particular combination of vehicle state and fob presence was provoking this new beep. It turned out to be the water softener in my garage. The low salt warning beep sounds exactly like the Prius beep. I did not feel very clever after that discovery.
What helps much, it is the kind of the beep : continuous or not, and when NOT how many beeps. For example, - the beep is continuous : very often the handbrake (foot pedal on the left) is ON and mode P (as Panic) not activated; so the car is trying to run. - the car is in ready mode, the fob in and you leave the car : it's beep 3 times. Sometimes the car display a message on its screen. But anyway remember this : speaking to her has no efffect. I've been trying it severals time : it does not work ! Friendly, Guy
I hate the backup beep. Totally retarded. At least it doesn't beep like crazy when the seatbelt is undone if driving like the corolla does.
I did the same thing. The service writer said they had never had a request for this before, so it took them quite a while to figure it out, or at least to call Toyota to figure it out.
No, no, no. The Prius doesn't "beep." If you read your owners manual, you would realize that it "buzzes." I know it sounds like a beep, but it really isn't.
