I have purchased electric lawn care products and have posted a review of them over at cleanmpg.com I bought the Ariens AMP electric riding mower, The Black & Decker 19" 36v cordless push mower, and the Black & Decker 36v trimmer. I want a robotic mower!! Not much could be easier to use. I saw a big robot mower the other day on a very large lawn which always looks great, now I know the secret!
i purchased an electric self propelled mower last year from canada. we love it. and a solar panel charger. unfortunately, shortly after we bought it, they knocked $50. off the price and now i see ryoby has a 48 volt model. now i'm jealous. i have about 20,000 feet of lawn, do you think the amp can handle it?
As long as your lawn is level you should be able to cut the whole thing on one charge. I'm getting about half an acre cut with mine and 20,000 square feet is about half an acre.
thank you, i just read your review, it sounds interesting. i'll stop at an ariens dealer and take a look. i'm using a husky 42" now, takes about 45 minutes, hate the noise and gasoline. is the lawnbot an option? i'll have to read up!
Yes as long as you dont have any steep parts on your lawn there are lawnbotts that can cut up to 1.5 acres.
I've always been a proponent of electric mowers but they are just not there yet with respect to the level of cut you get from a gas mower. I still prefer my electric mowers as the maintenance is nill. They're quiet, reliable, but I wish the swath was a little wider. I'm talking from experience that is two years ago. I suppose new mowers have come to market that are wider than say 22".
I have updated my Ariens AMP review with a charge curve graph. The charge curve is very interesting for charge times. See the review for more information.
Got a electic mower with cord for my 1600 sq ft front lawn. Cord was no problem with my small, unobstructed lawn (40x40). Took it over to my girlfriend's whose yard is on all four sides of her house and has 30+ trees. WHAT A PAIN IN THE AS$. Wish I had spent $100 more and gotten a battery mower. Which brings up a good question on these new plug in cars everyone is talking about, how long is the frick'n cord???
I have a 24 volt Homelite cordless 20" mower. I have had it for 3 seasons now and I have about 5500 sq/ft of grass to cut. I can usually mow my lawn 2 times on a charge and only the tallest grass seems to bog it down.
Home Depot carries them. The version I have does not have a removable battery but the new version that they sell now does.
A removable battery would let you cut a larger yard if you bought an extra one. For me the Black and Decker mower that I got has a run time of 3 times more than I'm willing to push. But others might want to push mow a whole acre. Not me because I'm lazy.
