"But, that isn't true christianity!" is usually wailed whenever the Inquisition, or corruption, or wars perpetrated by religious institutions is mentioned. Actually, yes it is. For most of its history, for the largest percentage of its adherents, it's been a warring, bloody, corrupted, self-serving institution. It may not be what the teachings of Jesus say it should be, but that's what it has been. "But those aren't really christians"... someday, someone may say that about you, based on their interpretation of what makes someone a "real" (TM) christian.
Perhaps, but again it is just someones "interpretation". So what? What do you believe in Rae? We all believe in something even if we don't believe in some super natural being (atheism), right?
i am greek orthodox cristian, and all i can say is,your all corect, but i also have a statue of godes demitra on the dashboard of my taxi the godes of agriculture and reproduction ! seem's correct since i harvest the streets of athens. also considering to take thea athina with me in the taxi because she rules when it comes to strategy!!! The relevance today is that you believe in Christianity precisely because your great-great-great-many-times-great-grandparents were tortured into joining the church and indoctrinating their kids, and from there it was passed down generation to generation. Christianity exists today because of conversions forced by violence. Once firmly rooted, it persists like a weed. And, no, I do not suppose that you condone this sort of violence. But I note that Christians did not stop burning people at the stake until the churches lost the political power to enforce their will on the population. And that everywhere clerics of any religion hold political power the result is repression and persecution and violence against those who do not accept the religion of the ruling clerics.
Do you believe that all Muslims are radical jihadist? Since the US is at war with Iraq and Afghanistan does that mean that all Americans believe in war? As stated, there are religious wars going on at this minute. Does that mean that all that believe in that religion have blood on their hands? If so, then that means that you have blood on your hands simply because you are an American. I would guess that there are some atheist out there that have committed some violence. Does this make all atheist violent? Why do I feel that some of you on this thread have an urgent need to denounce other's belief systems? Does this help you support your belief system?
my opinion is that a place like PRIUS CHAT is not fit to have threads like this !!!! i am actualy suprized i fell in to this one here today!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i mean its prius chat !!! politics and religion have diferent sites that converse and argue all the time
i miss that GTI fellas threads all ready that get as serius as what costs more the batery or a 12 cilinder engine
My sentiments exactly. I normally try to stay away from this type of discussions. I came to PC for technical information, not these types of discussions. For some reason, I felt the need to respond
Thin skinned folks that can't enjoin a political discussion (and YES, religion IS a political thing) shouldn't ask to join in a small forum that is devoted to that end and just open their keys to complain about it when they get here... perhaps you should spend more, if not all, of your time in one of the other fine little forums we have here Bra. You'll feel better later I'm sure if you refrain from looking in here at all Bra. I'm just saying, if you don't like the topic, stay out of the thread... you'll have an easier day.
Socrates, there are many discussions here about things other than the Prius. That's OK. Sometimes, people get carried away, but most of the time the discussions are civil.
Yes but remember that the New Testament was written in Greek. The Greek word for Peter is petros, which means "a pebble" or a small stone. On the other hand, the Greek word that Jesus used for rock is petra, meaning "a massive rock" or bedrock. It always helps to go back and check the context of the verse. "He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (verses 15-18) If the Gates of Hell were not to prevail against Peter how is that he denied Jesus three times? No he was not conferring divine authority unto Peter because from that moment on I'm sure the other apostles would have acted quite differently towards Peter and about who would sit at the Right Hand of Him.
Stalin and Mao were atheist they probably killed more people than all the others put together? Hitler was an occultist so you can tack on 10's of millions more. Slow down you're typing too fast. LOL!
