I bought a used 2008 prius about a month ago with 44,000 miles. Tonight when I went out to get something out of the car, I noticed a flashing light on the dashboard. It looks like a car but is flashing so quickly I am not certain. I can't find anything about it. Does anyone know what I am seeing and if there is something I need to do about it. Thanks.
That would be the "there is no keyfob inserted" light. Did you happen to get the manual with your Prius? Granted, the explanation in there is pretty obscure, but basically, it means that the keyfob is not inserted, therefore the engine immobilization is activated. Don't sweat it, it's normal.
This site has a ton of stuff, but here is a 'user guide' he wrote, while you wait. John's Stuff - Toyota Prius User-Guide
Funny, I didn't notice that flashing dash light until I'd had my first Prius for about a year. Then I found out it is just a light to tell potential thieves that they're wasting their time.
I have owned my 08 Prius for about 4 months now. That flashing symbol was never visible until I replaced the 12-volt battery this week.
