Oh forgot to add. You won't believe how much teachers make in this country either!!!! You want some numbers? You will be shocked. I am.

This site suggests the average wage in 2008 was £39,393. I would think it is substantially lower than this - almost £40k just seems too high.


And you they will pay higher taxes so it looks like teachers can make more in the us.


I'm not going to post it but The wages for guys fixing cars are no where near what you say your brother makes. I'm not saying he doesn't make that much. But someone in the us might make less going to the UK and working. I think the taxes are alot worse too.

I have been to the UK a few times on business. The cost of living in London is shocking. I think I mentioned around 6 years ago, I had a new home built here for under $200,000 Cdn

Though if car mechanics really are commanding that sort of salary in London, might explain why an oil change is >200 pounds. ACEA spec oil isn't THAT expensive

As an example of salary, I could easily double my salary just by moving to NYC. My cost of living would be many times more than what I have right now. Wonder what sort of lovely dwelling I could buy for $200,000 in Manhattan?

 

Wow, I don't understand how a country can survive by paying such high wages. In the end, someone has to pay - either that or everyone is in debt.

Hmm yes rahter poorly. I hate to brag especially on the wrong side of the world but America is the dream place to live.

You ask who pays for all of this? Well poor citizens. Living standards here are pretty dire compared to the US.

Why? Because a lot of our money goes to the government and then the government pays illigal immigrants a lot of money for support. Pay a lot of benefit for people who doesn't work. Pay for pregnant teenage girls who have a lot of babies (one couple with 8 kids can get up to £30k with both of them doesn't have to work at all and also get a house for free). A house here typically cost around £350k and some with more kids or babies can get houses up to £1m. And a lot of the money goes into public sector jobs (teachers or GPs with redculous high pay). GPs (famili doctors) can earn up from £100k to £200k! Bascially wasting tax payers money. So who benefits? The minority.

Petrol or gas we pay over 75% tax to the government per liter. So if now the pice of petrol or gas is £1.19/Liter ($1.73/L) ($6.55/US Gallon) our government gets £0.85 of that. Report about a month ago before our general election is that the government earn up to £15 Billion from petrol tax a year.

I am not even going to go how much tax we pay on salaries and also VAT etc. So the people can't really get rich (well some can) but majority are poor or they can't afford much of luxuary.

These mechs I talk about are elite (mean they know what they are doing and they are clever to know they way around things to get the money they get) but people are right most mechs don't get this much. And most people general average wage is around £25k. With everything expensive most people can't buy the things the americans can afford so the living standards are much much lower.

Those who are earning a lot of money they tend to hide it very well untill you get to know then and then get a shock as how much they are earning.

Teachers especially All SLTs they earn over £65k and they don't do much. I never knew a teacher can earn that kind of money. And they go up every year too. So if you are senor enough you can get up to over £90k by the time you retire. Who suffers? People like me who pay taxes and starting teachers who does all the teaching and gets hardly any money. Their start pay £18k or something? And if you are out of london you won't get that extra £4k.

Anyway enough of salary talk and polotics or cultural talk Depressing.

 

Hey - first oil change need to occur at 1000 miles - new filter and change over to Mobile 1 snythetic oil - then change at 10000 intervals or one year assuming normal driving. Super dirty roads you need to change more often.

Thanks for enlightening me - what you said was pretty informative. I think America however is going the same route, where for some odd reason catering to the minority as opposed to the majority and appearing to do "good" is what counts in the political realm, where in actuality its just ruining the whole county. Thats how it looks to me anyways.

 

If your say minority as in the "Rich" your right. The rich make the laws here, the rich get the bailouts from our goverment.

Just a thought from my head.... Why do we americans let our goverment be bought out by the rich.

I would vote for a law thats makes it death by hanging if a president/congressman/our rep, takes any money from a company, or from any person that makes more than 1 million a year. Their bought out by the rich. They need to work for the "normal americans"

So I brought my 2010 in, with 3800 miles for the brake recall. (BTW, it's too soon to tell if it helps). I asked the service writer to change the oil and filter. He said,
"Why?, you don't need it". So I said, well because it's the first time...He said, you still don't need it. The car can go for 10k miles before oil changes, even the first one. I asked him to do it anyway, and he reluctantly agreed...but with a dutiful smile.

BTW, They used 0w20 synthetic, and it only cost $49.99.

I'm not used to using a dealer for any service work...except maybe a recall. They really were very good about it.
