Over time, several of us have been looking for a single 2010 wheel to use as a full-time spare. I hope it's not inappropriate, but I saw an auction on eBay for 2010 15" Prius Wheels on eBay - $75 per tire + $35 shipping = $110 shipped. There are 4 available. Not my auction, and I have no connection with it, but thought it might help anyone looking for a wheel at a decent price as I did for some time before finding just one (not a set). Auction is at: 2010 Toyota Prius wheel OEM 15" 300 mile take offs: eBay Motors (item 270595369011 end time Jul-17-10 19:40:59 PDT)
No disrespect intended, but why do you want to carry around a full size, heavy wheel? I haven't had a flat tire in 15yrs; I put my emergency spare in the garage when I bought my car, rather than lug it around.
Fair question -- and the reason is that our past experiences differ. To begin, I only carry the full-size spare on trips. Around town, I can live with the donut-spare if I need to. I've had, while having two cars in the family, several flats over the last ten years. And, two of them occurred when it was very difficult to rely on the donut. The worst case was when I borrowed someone's company-owned car with a performance package which included special tires not commonly used on other cars -- but pretty much (I found out) only on performance packages and the like. So, driving on a Saturday evening, I got a flat. Only the donut to rely on. Had to settle for a fairly close place where I could get a hotel room vs reaching my brother's place as planned, because of the lower speed required when using the donut. Most tire dealers were closed on Sunday, but one local chain which was open pulled it off and it was not repairable. Had to wait until Monday. Then, both tire stores and dealers said it's not a tire they keep in stock, so they'd have to order it. Talked one store into getting it faster with more shipping cost I had to pay. Finally got the tire & back on the road. I've had two more flats on trips over the last, say, ten years. Those other two weren't problems, as I had full-sized spares in both cases. I'd gladly trade to you any future punctures the gods are sending me to have. By coincidence, yesterday I went to Discount Tire to buy new tires for my Sebring convertible .... a 2001 Limited with about 33,000 miles on it. The original tires still looked good, but 10 years of age takes a toll on tires, so I replaced them. I bought five, not four, Michelin MXV4's -- so I'll have a matching full-sized spare for it. YMMV.
@derkraut Uhh, I wouldn't recommend removing the emergency spare since...what are you going to do if you get a flat? Call a tow truck? A tow can cost a hundred bucks or so (if you don't have AAA or whatnot). A can of fix-a-flat can damage the TPMS. Besides, does a full-size even fit in the trunk? I know on the G2 model, it doesn't. But this deal is pretty good - considering that a replacement alloy wheel can be a few hundred bucks.
I too found out that a full-size didn't fit into the wheel well of the G2. On trips, I strapped it down on the hatch floor -- just as the owners manual specifies for stowing a flat tire. Suprisingly, perhaps, I still had lots of room for luggage. Haven't tried the G3 yet, but my guess is that it's the same. A tech at Discount Tire said that I might try letting most of the air out of the full-size, and then see if it'll fit into the wheel well. Then, you'd only have to carry a 12V corded air pump, which I carry anyway. I'm going to look into this one at some point.
