Don't know, but battery warranty questions came up a bunch of times at Executives online for live webchat at 4pm today to discuss Chevy Volt battery news — Autoblog Green. There was also this specific q & a: I did find stuff like www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/zevprog/factsheets/overview.pdf which is why PZEV vehicles have 15 year/150K mile emissions warranties and stuff like http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/inusecom/summaryofregulatorychanges030907.pdf that mentions the 10 year/150K part. Perhaps searches for keywords like "warranty site:ca.gov battery 10 years" would turn up more.
The only reason I'm bringing this up is because it's sort of like making a press statement that GM is following the law. No wait. It IS a press statement that GM is following the law.
If the car is SULEV it needs the 8 year warranty. This announcement means it won't qualify for PZEV. I'm not really sure that matters. The competing warranty for the leaf is only 5 years. Perhaps if CARB rules weren't so counter productive we would have a plug in prius right now available for public sale.
So true. Why are auto manufacturers who fought so hard to kill zero emission rules not getting this rule amended ?
