I Just bought my 2010 Prius and have noticed an irritating background radio static while listening to fairly weak AM radio stations. This occurs when accelerating or slightly accelerating, but almost disappears upon letting up on the throttle. Toyota has no bulletins, or answer on RF noise suppression on Gen. III models. One note, I went to my Toyota dealership & the service manager suggested I drive a new Prius to see if the noise is in a different car. He went with me, and bingo, it was noticeable in the new car. He said there was no information on it, but would check with Toyota and get back. Any ideas?
It's interference from the car, the same issue that's driving lot's of us nuts over on this thread: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...07-weak-fm-radio-reception-in-2010-prius.html Toyota know all about the problem, but seem to be intent on just ignoring it. In some areas (like my own) the radio is unusable because of the noise. Fitting an aftermarket radio gives some improvement, at least on FM (I've not tried AM), but not enough to be worth the hassle and expense in my view. Jeremy
Jeremy is correct. I would add all my aftermarket radios have great AM reception also.... I never really thought AM was a huge issue on the Prius - it is mostly seen in the FM band.
