The sliding luggage cover in my 2010 Prius is very difficult to pull out over the contents of the storage area. I've only had this new/used car a month and am concerned that if I pull it hard enough to window shade it open, I might pull it apart. The problem seems to be with the ridges on either side as the cover just as it emerges from its container. I'm wondering 1) if anyone else has had this problem, and 2) should I spray some silicone spray on the ridges so they'll come out more easily. Thanks for any suggestions!
Instead of silicone spray, you might try paraffin wax. Just rub some on the sticky area and see if that helps. If you can't get the edge of the block in the channel, try a wax crayon.
Thanks, Hyo and Firepa. I'll try the parafin, but if that doesn't work, the dealer needs to fix it as it's still under warranty. They just replaced my driver's door panel... the elbow rest was pushed into the molding and I didn't realize it until last week.
Yeah, it may be mis-wound, jamming it. I'd try to pull it gently....then have the dealer swap if that doesnt work. Those are handy, as they cover up all your stuff in the back, plus diverts the sun from baking your things.
Is it the container sitting with the right side up? edit: Just checked and it only goes one way. So much for that theory!
I would go to the dealer before I started using any lubricant. If it is going to stain or rip, let them do it so they can't claim it was your fault. Although this is just like the cheapest window coverings available (I needed to replace a roller shade and was only able to find them at WalMart and Home Depot [or Lowes]), I bet they charge an arm and a leg for a replacement. On one occasion, I had a sticky cover, it came out and has never recurred, but if this is continual, I bet they are going to have to replace it.
Had a similar problem on another (non-Prius) car. My solution was to pull the cover out as far as it would go (ie all the way to the stops), and then ever so carefully (and slowly), let it retract into the cover holder. While slowly letting it retract, make sure to watch the end of the cover to make sure they back into the holder in a square (not crooked) fashion. If you can't get it to work right, as another poster mentioned - take it back to the dealership and I'm sure they will swap it out for you.
I never had any problem with mine. It has always worked normal. It won't let you install upside down...so I would just have the dealer replace it rather than worry about it.
