I've noticed the use of abbreviations on Priuschat and whilst I am aware of the most common ones such as lol, lmao and imho, there is a new one which has been gaining in popularity - Wth. It usually appears at the end of a sentance and having racked my brains trying to work this one out I'm afraid it has defeated me. So, anyone got an idea on Wth actually means?
It stands for "What the F***?", and it's actually been around a lot longer than you may think... at least since the 90's, if memory serves. Every time I see it, I remember this classic... The End of the World | Flash Videos
lol I was hoping for some interesting innocent alternatives such as Where To Friend or Wear This Fool etc.
You're a cabbie and you don't know what Wth means? Dude, Wth? Speaking of acronyms, my sister texted to her daughter. I don't know what she wrote, but the reply came back, "IKR." We had no clue what that meant so we - being old and ignorant, of course - had to ask for a full-word translation. Her reply: "I know, right."
My historical references suggest that Wth is a bastardization of the original WT ? F! Too much to text I suppose.
RTFM is 'Read The F&%@ing Manual'. Wth could also be a vague reference to the lost African tribe called 'we-the-fukowee'.
On this note, there's a pho place sort of near where I live called What the Pho! - Vietnamese Noodle Soup
Steve Carrel in one of his roles (I think he's a dad in this one) explains several abbreviations and then gets to Wth and I'm cringing because it's a family film, but he describes it as "Why the face?" Of course, everybody over 12 knows better, but he's supposed to be clueless anyway, so it works well. Software engineers and IT folks like to visit The Daily Wth: Curious Perversions in Information Technology, which has horror stories about bad coding, bad customer support, etc. IDK is common for I don't know, so with a bit of time I might have gotten IKR, but it wasn't one I'd heard before. A co-worker sent an e-mail with AYPK, which had us baffled. Turns out it means "As you probably know". Um, no, we didn't... Abbreviations useful for a car forum: OP - original post PO - previous owner PC - PriusChat (does not mean 'politically correct' here) YMMV - your mileage may vary (meaning, might be different for different people) RTFM already covered, completely different than ROTFL (rolling on the floor laughing) common ones: OTOH - on the other hand BTW - by the way IIRC - if I recall correctly DH - I'm assuming this means 'dear husband' One I saw in PriusChat which had me confused for awhile was SWMBO. I'll see if other people think that's obvious or if I was not unusually confused. Hint - it's kinda related to DH
