Pot role unclear in deadly U.S. 23 crash | detnews.com | The Detroit News "The driver of a Toyota Prius involved in an accident that killed five people on U.S. 23 in October was found to have marijuana in his system, but authorities say they cannot conclusively determine if that played a role in the crash. "
Having read the article, it's also possible that excessive speed and inexperience may also have been factors. There's no mention of THC levels, so it's impossible to say whether 'the influence' was even the same day. For alcohol, there are standard tests and well established guidelines that vary from place to place. Is there anything similar for THC, or is 'zero tolerance' the accepted norm?
We could prevent these types of accidents if we added a cannabis interlock system to the car.
Alcohol breathalysers are generally pretty effective and easy to use. But that wouldn't work for cannabis. In some areas, there's enough residual smoke that all cars in the general vicinity would be rendered inoperable. You'd have to take a blood sample, but an automatic system could be pretty painful, and make a real mess of the upholstery.
Wouldn't those other cars be off topic in a Prius Chat? I am only intimate enough to detect oddities in the car I drive now, so focusing on the car I drive is not only selfish but most likely to recognize a pattern that is not just driver error. In my business, fixing a problem you can name is easy, finding a unnamed problem is hard. I would think that is true in the automotive field. At the time I posted the above, there was concern that folks were being made to disappear in the middle of the night for the crime of safety reporting. Since I am essentially worthless here, I was testing to see if indeed I would be gone next.
this is non-news. the case was closed. the prius isn't effected by marijuana. so why would this accident have any relevance at all? if there was a suspected defect it would but, it doesn't
Ha, I just noticed... I thought the thread was labeled "Pot Hole" instead of "Pot Role". Now I know why everyone is talking about marijuana. Man I need new glasses.
I did that too. I often misread thread titles, and then get a chuckle after I see the mistake. The one that has me going right now is titled: "To stud or not to stud?" I think it's a lady's thread. I read it okay, but came up with the wrong context. Tom
