I'm new on the list. Have a 2009 with 25K on it, purchased in April when they were practically giving them away. Recently did an oil change and got snow tires, then left my husband in car with heat on for 20+ minutes, and now mileage is in the 30's and the battery isn't charging itself or regenerating. Any ideas on what could be going on? HELP!
Not enough details to help. How many tanks of fuel have you gone through with mileage in the 30's? What was your mileage prior to the oil change and leaving the car running for 20 minutes? Are you calculating the mileage from the odometer and the amount of fuel you added, or are you referring to the mileage on the display? What symptoms are you seeing that make you think that the battery isn't charging?
I'm sure there's nothing wrong. Snow tires will give you a big hit on mpg's, leaving the car running for 20 mins. will give you an even bigger hit, the recent cold snap will give you a big hit on mpg's too. Given all these new factors it's not surprising your mpg's are in the 30's. Give it a few tankfulls before you worry too much.
Then the car is effectively dead. The traction battery would simply run down to the point where the ICE couldn't start and that's it. So it's not dead. There seems to be some conflicting information or exaggeration here.
Shouldn't leave husbands in a car by themselves... Need more info for the people here. No serious power loss as well? Hopefully it is just normal under severe conditions.
I would like to know how much driving has occurred while the traction battery has presumably stayed in the purple area. Could a bad 12v cause this to happen ?
Hi CBC, Reset the mileage indicator, use the car for a week, and report back if how much worse it was than with the summer tires. It will probably be better than 30, unless your driving through piles of snow , or short trips, or both, without doing standing temeperature maintanance.
