I have the solar package, I did get all weather mats from costco and they work fine. Not sure if I am not supposed to put those over in drivers seat but I made sure they don't slide and are secure. I am thinking of fog lamps, paint protection (maybe) and mud guards. Any others to consider? Thanks in advance.
Skip: Mudguards - they reduce mpg. It's been proven. Paint protection - modern day paints are rather robust and don't need this treatment Consider: foglamps window tints LED lights It all depends on how much $$ you want to throw at the car.
I meant the paint protection film..I guess they are not a necessity ? Do the dealers install foglamps/led lights..how much do they run? I am considering window tints (back only). I am only thinking of basic mods (already paid through the roof ) Thanks !
Hopefully the dealer will install the fog lights, I don't really want all the other stuff I'd have to get in a "package" just to get fog lights, so I'm hoping they will install them after the car (II) arrives. I know I'll pay for cost & labour they charge to install, but it would be worth it. They DO install fog lights don't they????? Please say yes??
I'm sure the dealer will install fog lights but you may get a better deal somewhere else (I'm assuming here). As for anything else, find it aftermarket and away from the dealer. I purchased a IV in Silver/Misty with no options. I am acquiring the following: - Husky Weatherbeater floor liners (just received them today) - A reflective windshield shade, custom size for the Prius (I use it all the time in the summer) - Window vent deflectors (the Weathertech ones. Used them in my last car and they're wonderful). And I plan to get that 3M type film installed to protect the front bumper and some of the hood and I will also likely get the windows tinted. And that's it, at least for now.
For me: window tint (a must in texas) Rear bumper guard (like it...and it does protect with my clumsy self!) all-season mats (a must have IMO) cargo rubber mat (OEM is really nice!) door edge protection (very useful in my garage) cargo net (mine is the spider net...and i do use it)
Oh yeah, cargo net! Forgot about that. I got the dealer to throw that and all the Prius carpet mats in. Took the seat floor mats out to keep them new for when I sell the car (hopefully many many years later) and put in the husky mats.
to keep selling this car in the future there can only be one thing thats THE!! most important and that will be better MPG then any prius model until date. carbon fiber? more alu? weight reduction anything!!
I know what's going through your mind. I was once the same. But once you get past that mental roadblock, you'll understand why people mod their cars and go all out. You could spend just $1000 on mods and transform your car forever. If I had to do my purchase again I'd buy a dirt cheap Prius and modify it 'til it couldn't take it no mo'. What good is a $2000 navigation system when I could spend $2000 on a body kit, car lowering, window tints, new rims, LEDs, etc etc? At least those improve how it drives and how it looks. That's just how I see things.
Two cargo nets (vertical and horizontal to use as needed. Weathertech or Husky floor and cargo LINERS (different than MATS). Wheel mud guards to help keep harm from the body paint, depending on where you live. Body side moldings (I had my body shop put them on to ensure good work). My color-matched door edge guards are ordered (simple DIY job, get the right rubber/plastic mallet). Most of this is armor. I keep a car a long time, so it's appropriate for me. If you lease, live in a different clime, or trade cars frequently, your priorities may differ. NO temptation to replace bulbs, etc etc etc.
+1 although for me, I'm wondering how that'll affect the AGPS and nav. Are you sure? All Canadian Gen 2 Prius have mudguards as standard equipment 2004 EPA: 60/50mpg combined 55mpg 2004 Natural Resources Canada: 59/56mpg combined 57mpg
How much can mudguards reduce fe? I would guess it would be minimal due to there placement on the car. (directly behind the wheels) Just saying.
I had the mudguards on the week after I bought the car & I often got 47.5mpg. Fog lights are essential but if you are good at wiring and into detail, you could save alot more by installing them yourself. Like 3 hours of work & cost much less than dealership ($145 OEM style lights come with everything you need), HID to improve night time visibility. Tinted windows..... I pretty much had those installed.
Yes the fog lights weren't that hard to install just time consuming. If you've got a free day, then I'd spend some time installing and learning about some of the car. For instance, if you do the fog light install and later on you want the door sills, then that install should be easy. iPhone ?
