I bought a 2002 Prius and it has the standard 14 inch wheels on it. I would like to get 15 inch tires but need to change the wheels/rims. There are a lot of 15 inch wheels for sale taken from Gen 2 and 3 Priuses but I am not sure if these are compatible. Can anyone tell me? Thanks for any help.
:welcome: to PRIUSchat. :cheer2: Sorry to say it, no the 4 lug, 14" 2002 wheels are not compatible with the Gen II and III cars that have OEM 5 lug, 15", 16" and 17" wheels/hubs. While there may be after-market 15" rims that fit the 4 lug 2002 hubs, some care would be needed to match them with the right size tires so that you come out with an essentially identical outside/tread diameter. I'm not conversant with the details of swaps like this so I hope others will post up. Meanwhile, see this: tire size calculator.
Go with custom wheels that you like, just make sure they are the correct off-set. I believe they are 35 thou. off-set, but make sure. H
Find a decent tire shop in your area (ask a local gearhead for a recommendation) and they'll be able to set you up with the proper fit of aftermarket wheels and tires. They do this all the time. Wheels may run about $250 apiece, but a sharp retailer may be able to find you a style that's being closed out for less.
Thanks for the help everyone, it was not exactly the answer I was hoping for but now I have a direction and may just stay with the 14 inch tires. I was actually trying to switch to the 15 inch Michelin energy saver tires so that I could increase my mileage but now I may just try the Bridgestone tires which will fit my rims. Thanks Again. Pamela
