Did they go from 1 to 2 to 4 to 8 to 16 turbines? vs. megatons of coal per day.

Yes they still use a lot of coal. They have 1.3 billion people. What do you expect?

Texas is building the most wind power of any state. It will add 50% more in the next 4 years. It would add wind faster but infrastructure of the grid is being built out. China is building this infrastructure much faster. Many states are not building wind at all.

The article seemed to state that they were at 1.2 GW in 2005. It is easy to go from 1 to 4, but they are blasting past all the numbers. The article says 0.4% of power today and 15% in 2020. That growth rate is impressive.

Communist Countries excel in announcing five year plans and grand undertakings. Meanwhile we have to make it work in the confines of free market economic constraints. (Hint-Pronouncements that ignore exponential math functions are funny.)

One of the side effects of grand undertakings is that if it works vastly poorer than pronounced, it can be kept a state secret. Here we get news of every failure and success and adjust accordingly. For example, if the Chinese wind farms kill wildlife at an immense rate, the easiest course of action is to ignore that......like if a coal plant spews acid rain like crazy. Let's complement China for their results when they are achieved, not their grand pronouncements.
