I could have sworn that I read somewhere on here how you can use the Scan Gauge II to change the reverse beep, but like they always say I cant find it now. Has anyone done it?
Using the proper codes from the GEN III XGAUGE master list add the Reverse Beep disable code to the custom XGAUGE codes then set it as an active gauge to monitor and it will set it. You only need to do that once, then leave the code stored for future use if you don't need more XGAUGE settings than the Scangauge can store (24 I think). I set both the disable and the query gauges to confirm it worked, as well as putting it in reverse and hearing only one chime.
You beat me to it! The list really should be a sticky on the forum header.....unless I am blind and just don't see it.
I have a ScanGauge II but I purchased it like 4 years ago and it hasn't been upgraded. Can I still disable the backup beeping or do I need to send the unit in for the $25 firmware upgrade?
I ended up calling the company and they confirmed my ScanGauge would work. I went straight to the Prius, put in the codes, and within 10 minutes I had the reverse beep set to one beep and turned off the seat belt beeping completely. Totally painless. Thanks everyone!
You got that right. The car is so much more pleasant now. I don't know about the rest of you but that faster beeping seat belt warning is enough to about make me go postal.
That is why I left the seatbelt buzzer on, I want putting on their seatbelts to be less unpleasant than not putting them on.
Was that a direct translation from Japanese to English? Precisely my rationale for not disabling the reverse beep... knowing that I am in reverse is less unpleasant than crashing into the car behind me when I've left it in reverse at the traffic light!
