Good day to all. I purchased a 2008 low mileage certified prius on Feb 28, 2011 at Koons and within 24 hours I had the dash go completely out. I did not know what to do so I called the salesman and he said drive it in. I live 20 miles away but only blocks from Ourisman Fairfax Toyota. I decided to go by Ourisman because driving without a speedo, the ready light, the PRNDB, etc was freaky. The Asst Service Manager came out and had a look, mind you, I have only owned this car for 22 hours, it had koons front tags, stickers, etc all over it. He went in and talked with the manager and came to the conclusion that it was a bad combination meter that he may be able to get to reset by pulling a fuse or two? Well, it worked. I told him thanks and said I would follow up with Koons. He said if I had any issues to come on back to Ourisman. Koons told me since it was working, nothing could be done. 10 days later it failed again, this time the car would not even turn off nor could I remove the key fob. I called Koons and said I was bringing the car in and wanted a loaner immediately. Longer story short, took it in and it reset, they kept it for a week and said they could do nothing. I called Ourisman and they said they would be happy to assist and replace the combination meter. Guess who now has my business exactly 19 days after I purchased the car...... I will pick up my car from Koons today and drop it off at Ourisman Sunday night. THANK YOU! Jimmy Koons used to care about customers, I guess no more
Thanks for sharing your story. More likely, that dealership doesn't have a competent Prius tech on staff. The combination meter is a well-known failure area. See: http://priuschat.com/forums/toyota-...9-combination-meter-intermittent-display.html I suggest that you inquire about having the new combination meter programmed with the current odometer reading, which can be done by the parts supplier. Otherwise, the new meter will show 0 miles. Once that is replaced I hope that you will enjoy driving your newly-acquired Prius. You now know which local dealership has technical staff competent to service it. Good luck.
Doesn't the original dealer have to provide some sort of warranty? Especially since it failed in less than a day!
OP says the vehicle is certified so the Toyota extended warranty should be honored by any dealer in the US. Based upon his description, it seems an exercise in futility to get the selling dealer to 1) figure out that the combination meter is bad and 2) take remedial action.
It is a certified car with extended warranty and extended wrap maintenance. The dealers as usual do as they want. My mistake was buying from KOONS
So sad to hear. So, who has the best Prius service in the area? Ourisman? I want to make sure I'm doing right by my car when it is time to take it in.
Always bums me out to hear about bad customer service. But this one ends with good customer service! Hazah! Congrats on the new Prius and welcome to Priuschat! :welcome:
