I just realized today that the color of both front and rear bumper is a little bit different color from main body. The body is a bit brownish black, the bumpers are black. Has anyone noticed about this?
The paint needs to be more flexible on the bumpers so it's a different formulation. That said, Toyotas are not known for their great color matching between body parts.
Did this a while back!: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...952-bumper-color-mismatch-sandy-beach-v.html?
It's more of a problem with lighter colors but has been known to happen to black. A forum member with two black Prius reported the same issue with one of them.
I have a 2010 black one and the color looks uniform... you should try to take your car back under warranty and they should replace the bumpers for you.
Titanium Silver, Tideland Pearl (greenish grey) and Blue Ribbon Metallic - They all had off-colour bumpers but only when you view it at a certain angle and, at least from what I remember, when it's bright & sunny. I don't notice the colour difference when it's cloudy.
I didn't noticed until my friend pointed out on bright sunny day, of course. I start realizing that the other Toyota car have a slight off color bumpers as well.
On my Prius, I notice the bottom rocker panels (or do you call them bottom skirts?) are the most different in terms of color. My bumpers match pretty well though.
My assumption is that plastic components don't gloss the same as metal, so the color/shine will be different between the two materials. I think this is common among all mfg, but some do a better job of matching then others.
