Hi all. i would like to add a back up camera to my prius 2011 rosen nav.system, anybody with step by step pictures of the installation process (mainly how to route the cable) want to share? thank you
here you go. this is the one from toyota tech on how to do it for their nav system. you can basically follow this method and just apply what you need for your own camera. also there are many threads relating directly to this same installation. good luck on your install
Hopefully you are going to use the Rosen Camera, due to the proprietary socket in the back of the Headunit. Or, you have a breakout adapter to RCA. As far as cable routing, when I installed my antenna, I had to follow the same route for the feedline. If you want to do it correctly, locate where you are going to place the camera. from that point you will have to run the camera coax inside the hatch to the top where you will want to feed it through the rubber boot. Once you get it into the car follow the Toyota route, from the previous posts' PDF. The big problem you are going to have is the connector for the camera is a PS/2 connector. It is RATHER LARGE!!! Working it through the boot will take some care and effort! Good luck, take some pics while you are installing, post 'em please!
Wow - how dumb is that - a proprietary camera! At 1K for a HU - you'd think they would give you *something*.... I'd just buy the Ebay cam, go to Radio Shack, buy a connector, then cut off the RCA, and solder on the new connector (much easier to get through the hatch). Whatever you do, you are going to have to cut a RCA cable, and solder the PS2.......
As suggested by LovingLife, how about avoiding the cable altogether and using the wireless setup from Audivox? Audiovox : Rear Observation Systems : ACA300 The Amazon price looks fairly reasonable.
For $36, it's worth it just to avoid tearing into the car to run wires! Mount the camera, locate the transmitter in the hatch door, TEST before making permanent, SWEET!!
That is the one i got from ebay for $33 Car Reverse Rear View Backup Camera for Toyota Camry 09 - eBay (item 130398586965 end time Apr-03-11 02:29:07 PDT) If I do it again, i would just buy the wireless receiver suggested by Longlife along with the ebay camera. I would not buy the camera from Rosen cause it is attached to the license plate and costs much more. The ebay cam just install onto the factory camera cutout to make it integrated.
The Rosen connector (DP-1010) provides jacks for both the Rosen camera and standard composite video. I used a generic camera with a RCA jack. Not sure if the rosen camera with a proprietary connector provides higher resolution or any other advantage. As for getting the camera cable through the hatch boot, a little liquid soap made that process quite easy. My camera had plenty of cable to get to the front but I believe you will have at least a 20' run all the way from the back so make sure you have enough wire before you start. Disassembling the rear hatch and the interior panels along the right side of the car took the bulk of the time. Otherwise it was a pretty straightforward process. I installed the Rosen rear sensors (DP-1030) at the same time. I posted more information (sorry no pictures) about my install here
Running the video through the hatch is the hardest part. By the time I got through I had somehow shorted out the video line and had to run it again. If you don't do the wireless route it much faster and easier just to run a standard wire and then splice on the video connectors to it. That's what I did after I shorted out the original video cable. I just used some stranded speaker wire I picked up at home depot. That gave me ground, video (black), and power (red). 20' isn't enough. I believe you'll need around 25'. But really make your life easy and just go wireless. Running the video feed through the hatch connector is a pain in the butt.
No I don't think I stated that, not even sure where you're getting that from. 22 AWG shielded speaker (or alarm wire) wire purchased at home depot in the electrical department.
