Ok, gas gauge had two pips. Filled up and only 6.36 gallons would go in! So that meant there was 6 gallons left in the tank but it showing only two pips...shouldn't it have been at a half a tank?
The annoying Gen II tank...I have a feeling I'd run out around 8 gallons, and I don't push it. Good you filled up...read this: Mike with a Prius: Prius gas bladder
That's insane! I read your blog. I don't top off the tank just wait until it clicks off and it clicked off at 6.36 gallons and then when I turned the car on it slowly climbed to full pips hahaha. I had no idea that 2 pips meant a half a tank while simultaneously meaning you could be stranded roadside. Hah!
If you try to outthink the fuel tank gauge you will eventually be stranded. Fill the tank when it says 'add fuel' soon. Safest before 20 miles have elapsed. Fill till the first click off using the low flow rate, do not try to shove more in. Ignore it the rest of the time My car usually has 9 - 10 gallons in the tank when it is 'full.' I can estimate how far the tank will take me by multiplying my tank MPG by about 10, although I honestly do not care. As I said above, just do not ignore the 'add fuel' warning.
After my faulty gas gauge in my Cavalier (yeah another issue added to the list I gave in the other post) where 1/4 a tank meant E and having to be pushed into a gas station from the intersection... I don't screw around with gas gauges. LOL
Now you know why we call it the Guess Gage. Fill it as soon as it gets to one pip And you should be OK.
