The replacement battery should be of the sealed type, Optima for example; or the type that vents through a little rubber hose that goes out through the bottom of the battery compartment, such as the one that comes with the car. A normal car battery should not be used in such a small space without ventilation.
This just happened to me this weekend. Battery dead after six days also! This was after a 2 hour long highway drive before it sat for six days. So the 12v battery should be sufficiently charged. The only thing I remember not closing is the door lock. I have an indoor garage. Prius II was purchased in 8/09. I hope this is not a normal thing where the battery drains after one week. I'm going to be starting a job where I will be driving only once a week.
I sold my 2006 10 weeks after getting my Leaf. During that time we drove it 37 miles. It sat up to a week at a time several times. But I think the difference here is proximity of the car to the fog. Our car sat on the street where the fog never came within 50 feet of the car. If u were in a position where u were coming within 10-15 feet u were most likely increasing battery drain from SKS
I have the page in the owners manual for jump starting marked with a postit note! Just in case I or someone has to jump start the car. Had to use it once myself! Had my car parked for two months started right up!
I went on a business trip for a week. I came back and to my surprise, the 5 years old 12V battery was still good. I started up and it worked flawlessly. Of course, before leaving I pushed the SKS button under the steering wheel.
FWIW, on my 2nd gen which was still on its original almost 5 year old 12 volt, I went away for vacation for >3 weeks and the 12 volt was still ok enough for the car to start. I too turned off SKS. A friend had to drop me off at the airport using my Prius and pick me up in it, a bit over 3 weeks later. He wasn't told how to jump start my car, if needed.
Just out of curiosity, what is the range you want to keep the fob out of when you're not driving? The lot where we park our car is pretty close to the house, so...
Maybe your friend left the interior lights ON. I did once. It only took 2 days to drain the 12V battery. But it is easy to fix. A jump start will solve the problem.
Not far. Maybe 10-15 feet. When my 2006 was parked next to my 2010 I noticed that just being close caused the dome light to come on which meant the key was being sensed. So I stopped carrying the other fob with me. now ins garage situation especially when the bedroom is over the garage and only a few feet away vertically is when it could make a difference
