okay - I admit I am a newbie here and am attempting to learn so of the basic factors here. As I understand the first Prius was made in 1997 in Japan and I presume that was Generation I - and each year since has produced a new Generation Prius for the current Prius V (Vee/five)...So if I am looking for a black Prius with Solar Sun Roof option and Package that includes back up camera which Generation Prius would any of you recommend?
John's Stuff - Toyota Prius History covers up to Gen 2. Original (JDM only) aka NHW10 - the US never got it. Maybe you could call this Gen 0, 0.5, 0.9 or an early Gen 1? Classic (what everyone calls Gen 1) aka NHW11 Iconic (Gen 2, first w/the hatchback design) aka NHW20, debuted w/model year 04 Gen 3 aka ZVW30, debuted w/model year 2010 http://john1701a.com/prius/images/Prius-Generations.png is newer. http://john1701a.com/ has a WEALTH of Prius info. Toyota moved away from the Roman numerals to letters. They didn't tell us the real reason why, at the the beginning. But, later it became clear: upcoming Prius v wagon (v for "versatile"). See Toyota Prius Family. Solar roof is ONLY possible w/the 3rd gen aka ZVW30 as that's where it made its debut. There was NO factory sunroof option (solar or not) on ANY generation prior to Gen 3. They can be installed aftermarket which would obviously involve cutting a hole in the roof. Don't want to take you too far OT, but someone did ask similar questions at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-main-forum/88583-prius-versions.html along w/what was new to the ZVW30.
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Prius"]Toyota Prius - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] This may help you. http://www.toyotacertified.com/ebrochures/07_prius.pdf this also, just change the year around to see the specific packages.
I don't like the way the Wikipedia entry is done. I don't know who screwed it up and called the models XW10, XW20, and XW30. Toyota AFAIK has NEVER called them that. They've been NHW10, NHW11, NHW20, ZVW30 (and ZVW35 for the PHV Prius demostrators/prototypes floating around). As for the Toyota certified brochures, http://priuschat.com/forums/knowled...andard-optional-equipment-some-countries.html might be quicker/easier but none of the 2nd gens will help the OP because again, there was NO factory sunroof available until 3rd gen. I have package an 06 NL which was every option available at the time, except leather.
On this forum, you will see references to Gen I, Gen II, and Gen III. This refers to the three generations of Prius sold in the U.S. to date. Using this scheme, the first Prius, sold only in Japan, would be a Prius 0, or something like that. The Gen I Prius was a sedan. The Gen II Prius is the iconic hatchback that most people think of when you say "Prius". The Gen III was introduced for the 2010 model and continues with 2011. It looks a lot like the Gen II, but has harder lines. Tom
