I have a 2007 Prius. Apparently the hatch was left open because when I went to start the car not happened. No lights at all. No dome light. Smartkey doesnt work. Tried to jump start from the back and now when pressing the start button it goes green, but no lights at all. Another press makes it amber and the check engine light comes on. AAA wouldn't help at all, they said call toyota. can anyone help me?
You're supposed to jump start it from the front engine compartment, not the rear. See pages 360-363 of your manual. I would call a local Toyota dealer and let them know your tried jump starting from the rear. That's strange about AAA. Did they say why they wouldn't help? I have AAA, too, and wouldn't want to be unpleasantly surprised someday if I need their help.
the AAA guy said he was afraid to jump it. And he knew he was coming to jump a prius. Seemed odd. I tried jumping from the front, but no effect. Then searched the internet and it said try the back if the front doesnt work.
If the 12v battery is original, there is a good chance it could have died from the discharge. Getting a voltage reading from it would help trouble shoot. I personally would pull it and put it on a charger as my next step.
If the original battery has shorted, it will prevent you from doing a successful jump start. Disconnect the original battery and try jumping without it. If that works, you need to replace the battery. Tom

1. I hope that you know the difference between red and black, and positive and negative while jumpstarting the Prius. (The positive cable from the jumpstart device goes to the red terminal or positive side of the Prius battery. The negative cable from the jumpstart device goes to unpainted metal connected to body ground.) If not, then damage may have been caused to the electrical system including the inverter. 2. If you are confident that you correctly connected the jumpstart device, did you fully depress the brake pedal while trying to start the car? If yes and the car doesn't start: 3. If you have access to a battery charger and metric tools, then disconnect the 12V battery negative cable where it attaches to the car body, and hook up the charger to charge the battery. The point of disconnecting the negative cable is to clear the check engine light. 4. After charging for several hours (or once the charger shows it is done) remove the charger and reconnect the 12V battery negative cable to the body, tightening the bolt securely. 5. Press hard on the brake pedal and see if you can start the car. 6. If the car doesn't start, you can either install a new 12V battery (which is not the easiest thing in the world to do; look for posts on that subject) or else have the car towed to your local dealer for help. If you actually did not shut the car OFF last night and it ran out of gas then the hybrid battery may be dead. That would require a tow to a Toyota dealer to recharge the high-voltage traction battery. As Patrick implies, if you're not certain of what you are doing, call Toyota. As with any modern car an incorrect jump can do hundreds or even thousands in damage.
I don't believe this is possible with Gen II. The car should fire right up with a simple jump-pack. I'm a bit worried that Suzanne's initial attempt was reverse polarity
My husband did the jump start. What could have happened if he jumped it backwards? He does know the positive/negative thing but I guess anything is possible. I'm looking at all options. He charged from the front with the battery charger. First it needed 11.8 volts and after a while it said fully charged. No difference in the car so He took the cable off and tried to charge the battery from the back but it said it was fully charged. Should we unhook the negative and charge for 12 hours ignoring what the battery charger says about how much it is charging?
On the off chance that computers are confused, try disconnecting the negative from the battery for 5 minutes, then reconnect and try to start it.
