My friend and neighbor is interested in a 2007 Camry Hybrid. He was asking whether there are any specific reliability issues he should be aware of or concerned about. I told him that as far as I know it's the same hybrid drive system, and known to be extremely reliable, but just thought I'd inquire. Anybody here have any Camry Hybrid specific knowledge / experience?
It's the same in operational principle w/a PSD, MG1 and MG2, but it's definitely not the exact same components. The inverter for instance is (IIRC) smaller on the HyCam than the 2nd gen Prius.
we have 40,000 on our 08. tires went at 20,000, sunroof rattle was fixed under warranty with a tsb kit. my wife averages 40mpg. we love it. i will buy another in a heartbeat unless the fusion turns out to be better.
I have been doing a lot of research onn TCH because my back can't tolerate the seat of a prius. Nothing big problems have been turned up yet. Consumer Reports says worse than avg for '07s for body integrity. That would be things like squeaks, rattles, & other little annoying things. One good thing about used hybrids is that people that buy them new are not usually type of people that drive it like they stole it.
My mom bought one last July, an '11, brand new. In the past year she's had no real mechanical trouble with the car itself. However, she just found a problem with the driver's side window. The weather molding around the top of the window has somehow grown or come unglued and a little corner of it wants to stick out in the way of the glass going all the way up. She's having that fixed under warranty Monday along with another problem that cropped up a month or two ago. The in-dash CD changer (the model with Toyota bluetooth integrated, not the dealer added bluetech or whatever it's called) has stopped being able to read and change CDs reliably. Both of those are being repaired under warranty, but it's unfortunate that they occurred in the first place. She averages about 38 MPG or so but she's almost 80 and doesn't hypermile or anything special, she just mashes on the gas and brakes and goes. When I've driven it, I've been able to get between 40 and 46 MPG even with the climate control and a/c on, but getting much over 42-43 is very tricky for me because I've had very little opportunity to practice and it's my only hybrid driving experience.
I have a 2009 TCH and just turned over 80,000 miles on it. he only problem I experienced was an axel issue at about 45k that would have been quite pricey if I hadn't purchased the 125k extended warranty from Todd at Toyota of Greenfield. If I remember correctly, the warranty cost me $775. The repair would have cost close to $2,000. Plus I also got a free rental because of the extended warranty. As such, I would wholeheartedly recommend the extended warranty to anyone.
I have over 50,000 miles on my Camry hybrid with zero problems. I also average around 42-43 mpg commuting from Norfolk to the DC area.
I have a 09 Camry Hybrid (bought in Mar 08, Japan build) with ~ 78k miles, other than regular service, new tires and wipers nothing else, car is 100% reliable so far. No complaints. I'm also very happy with my dealer (Toyota Escondido), they have decent prices and have never tried to sell me anything that was not necessary.
at 50,000 miles, one of the rear doors will no longer open from the inside. i liked my salesman (at copeland toyota of brockton), but he no longer works there.
