So, I went to a friend's shop recently and I surprised him with my new prius! lol He runs a LED site and went ahead and progressed to swap all my bulbs into LEDs. WOW what a difference!! He changed almost every bulb then took a whole bunch of pics and used them on his site. He used some on his front page!! WOOT!! My car is FAMOUS!! haha.. Check out the pics! Front Page: The LED Station, LED Dome Lights, Interior Dome Lights. Link to Prius page: 2010 Toyota Prius LED Interior Light Kit If you end up getting them through him, tell them RJ sent you!
Congrats on the newfound fame. But let's be real here. There are a handful of LED stores on the web all selling the same product. $25 for 5 LEDs, whose quality is questionable, is relatively expensive. Also, $8.99 is an insane asking price for a 5-SMD LED. Did you know I can hop on eBay and buy the same bulbs from China for $1 each? Also, the 30 day warranty has got to be a joke. Did you know that I can get a 1-year warranty on LED products from stores like superbrightleds? So what makes you think your friend has something special going on here? I'm sorry, but I'm out. /end Shark Tank-like rant
OP - you are not the first to do this mod. I believe Luzchicken (sp?) did this mod a year ago, but there can be a problem. If you find that your TPMS is giving you errors on the dash, it is related to LEDs over the rear license plate.
I'll just add to this... The Ebay LEDs are as high quality as US LED bulbs - guess what - they *all* come from china.. Also, get the SMT bulbs (not the clear cheap rounded top ones) - they are typically yellow around the edge. Instead of 5 LED patterns, you can get 9, or 13 (more light). You can also get the mini SMT LEDs = they put like 26 on one stalk..... As posted - they are FAR cheaper than US resellers (and you have a much larger choice) - downside is a 2 week lead time (shipping from China)...
+1. So yeah, I changed my mind about this business. Can I partner with this guy? Assuming he makes any sales, his profit margin must be killer!
I also have full LED's converted in the car including license plate, I can vouch the difference is night and day! Though some of the interior lights can not accomodate more LED's because there's not enough spacing, so it's better to be conservative. Even then it's much better than the factory halogen bulbs!
Can someone post a guide for how to order the bulbs from ebay? I have a 2006 prius and I want to do white conversions. Nothing crazy bright - I want to be able to sit in the car and talk to people with the lights on without feeling like I'm in an interrogation.
I do not know? Call and ask him? He might?!! I know people who try to just use as many LEDs in their car and make it blinding bright. The bulbs my friend put on my car are a great combination of good lighting that isn't too bright.
Oh btw, I know I am not te first to do this mod, never said I was, just thought it was cool my car was used for the pics on a website lol when I was young and dumb and spent waaaaay to much money on cars I had a car sponsored by jc Whitney. That was a money pit.. Now that I am a bit older and wiser, I only buy mods I like. It might not win car shows, but I love my car without spending outrageous amounts of money. Priorities are different now!! And I know you can buy LEDs from china.. Purchased them before. Between shipping and waiting and return headaches (if the led has problems), I would spend the little bit extra getting it local where I can make sure the LEDs match.. Sometimes u get ones whose color is a little off.. Plus it's my friends shop! He installed them for me haha That was definitely worth it since I was being lazy!! Haha
Theyre not hard to install. Pop the light cover, pull out the old bulb, push in the new one. Can be done in <20 seconds. But if you're talking about the Gen II license plate bulbs, now that's a little killer. First time I did it I cut my hands. Lol.
Haha no He installed 10 bulbs including the map lights x 2, dome light, door lights x 2, trunk light, license plate lights x 2, and city lights x 2. They were all easy to get to. They definitely changed how to do the license plate bulbs. There is a little cover on the hatch you pop off and voilà there are the bulbs!!
