My purse with my key was inside the car. I shut the door and walked in front of the car to the barn...and as I walked past the car it beeped twice. When I returned to the car minutes later, all of the doors were locked. How did this happen? thanks for any suggestions to avoid this in the future.

Don't know off hand, but the Prius has a behavior (it's in the manual) that if you unlock the doors and the doors aren't opened within a certain amount of time (30 sec? 1 min? 2 mins?) that it automatically re-locks the doors.

In the future, please also post in the correct area. This has nothing to do w/Prius c concept car.

In my 2009 Prius 5, two beeps means a key is still in the car and it did not lock.

If you value whats in your car go back for the fob.

It shouldn't. It wouldn't even let you lock the car with the keys inside even if you tried! (e.g. manually rotating the door lock to the lock position and closing the door will unlock ALL doors)

Is it possible the battery in the fob is low and the car didn't recognize its presence?
    Or somehow shielded?

The car was running? How did you unlock the door?

I've never heard of the Prius locking the doors on its own no matter where the fob is (or isn't). Something does not sound right.

Did you have a second key FOB on your person, as you walked outside, while your purse and other key was inside the car? (How did you get back in, anyway?)

I've noticed odd locking behavior, while washing my Prius, with my key FOB in my pocket. As I circle the car, it will unlock and lock, as it picks up the approaching key, if I don't open a the driver door. As posted earlier, though, I don't think it's possible to lock a Prius with a key inside it, unless the key/FOB battery is dead.

Yeah, don't leave your keys in an unattended car.

I think you're all missing the vital declaration.

"Walked infront of the car to the barn"

This is obviously an "Animal Farm" situation. Some animals (probably the pigs) have gotten a hold of the spare fob, and they have a wicked sense of humor. Sounds inprobable but I can't think of any other way this happens.

One Fob good, Two Fobs Bad....

    The mystery deepens...
The second fob was not able to unlock the car???
Did you use the mechanical key to unlock the car???

The only time that I'm aware of that the doors automatically lock is when you unlock the car from the outside and do not open any of the doors. The car automatically re-locks after about a minute.

As previously mentioned, two beeps means the fob was left in the car. My car also beeps twice whenever I unlock it.

Definitely something fishy going on in this thread or some critical information is missing. Let us know how it goes at the dealer.

The Prius iPhone app could have been the culprit.

There's no such thing as Prius iPhone app. If there is, there would have been numerous threads about it.
