This is pretty cool unlike other types it is design to allow 90% capacity charge in 10min. The energy density of the 150g-cells about 67.2Wh/kg according to Wikipedia, NiMH batteries have density of about 70Wh/kg and Li-Ion ~250-340Wh/kg.
I must desagree with you. Based on the information published, it seems that SCiB have higher effective capacity versus typical lithium-ion batteries (see below). I believe SCiB are really the future of EV. Quick charge, long life and much more... Mitsubishi had the largest EV trial here in Quebec/Canada last winter (50 EV's). People here were marvelled by the MiEV performance in extreme cold weater. Lets hope Mitsubishi Motors can properly execute and provide sufficient EV's to NorthAmercia... This could be a game changer !!! Lets hope.. This, combined with highly efficient regenerative charging during braking or coasting downhill, allows the SCiB to deliver 1.7 times the driving distance per level of charge of a typical lithium-ion battery. This will allow for installation of smaller battery modules in vehicles and contribute to lower EV prices. The SCiB also offers high level performance in a wide range of temperatures, and continues to support rapid charging and excellent power output at temperatures as low as -30ºC.
what it boils down to is if the capacity is measured by weight or by volume. The NiMH are equal to LiIon by volume, yet ~x4 times inferior by weight. either way the achilles of EV is long charge time, so this is a welcome development. Sadly you won't be able to charge it in 10min from household outlet.. The biggest draw you typically have allowed is 240V by 30amp (equivalent of A/C circuit), 7.2kW/h. Or about 20-25mi of range per hour.

Yep, agreed. Maybe "real" charging stations can have more V since they are commercial. Then even the 10 minute charge to even 50% could be realized. This would likely kill 2 other technologies, LPG/LP and Fuel Cells, before they get a chance to get traction. Although I knew it wouldn't be long for Fuel Cells to die. And especially if tonyschaefer has anything to say about it.

After tax credit, iMiEV comes out about $21k. The motor is 49kW and top speed is 80 mph.
I rode in a development iMIEV. It had a surprising amount of power at the low end - getting to 40mph was effortless for the thing (highest speed limit, it was a residential neighborhood, nearest highway was ~10mi away). Cornered OK, a but more body roll than I'd like.

Sub forums is what keeps the Toyota PHEV section from getting too cluttered with "other cars". Anyway, the "other cars" subforum that's especially set up for mitsubishi is called, "other cars". .
That is just spin. Let us say SCiB is 100w/kg and uses 95% SOC. i.e. 95w/kg. LG is 150w/kg and uses 80% SOC i.e. 120w/kg. NMC will likely double the density in 3 to 5 years. Where will SCiB then ? One thing they didn't talk about in the above linked interview is price. That is where Altairnano suffers. I think at this time, SCiB is very good for hybrids, where the above statement might actually be correct. For EVs, SCiB (by their own admission) is not yet ready.
Consider the cycle also. SCiB can do 3,000 deep cycles. LG and Nissan battery packs needs to do about 50% SOC windows to get the most cycle and probably would never reach 3,000 cycles. If you use 80% SOC, the pack may last only 1,500 cycles. The cost advantage of LG and Nissan disappears in the long-term. The safe SOC window for SCiB also narrows much slower (see the comparison below). Throw in the cold weather performance and you have a very reliable battery that is worth the extra.
