The "Passport to Performance" booklet mentions "Authorized Prius Dealerships", seemingly implying that not all Toyota Dealers are "Authorized Prius Dealerships". Is that the case?

If so, is there a way to find out online which ones are "Authorized Prius Dealerships"?

Are you asking out of curiosity or necessity? If you need to know, you can tell us what dealership you're looking at and I think one of us will be able to verify it.

More curiosity, though if it comes down to buying a new one I think I would want to go to one.

So, I guess that means there's no easy way to find the closest one?

I think you'll be more hardpressed to find a Toyota dealership that isn't "Prius authorized," so I doubt this will ever be a problem, especially in the San Diego area.

Maybe it's something that was a big deal back in 2002, when there wasn't a lot of Prii out there.

Maybe, though I could imagine that when the Prius first came out, maybe Toyota didn't want to bring all their techs up to speed on how to work on hybrids so they only did at select locations to save money.
