The Friday Podcast: The Case For Preschool : Planet Money : NPR Nobel economist James Heckman argues this would be one of the best investments we could do as a people. Good listen if you 1/2 hour to burn.
That is horrible. Since prisons are being privatized more and more, by having less prisoners they are cutting into corporate profit. I say ban preschool.
Actually in my house we just say ban school. We are homeschooling our 6 year old and plan to continue with our younger guy. This article by Lori Day shows how our education system is failing our boys. I've been working almost exclusively with teens and agree whole heartilywith this article. Lori Day: Why Boys Are Failing in an Educational System Stacked Against Them
Our society shows a profound reluctance to pay money up front in order to save even more money in the future. We are big fans of a "good deal", even when it costs more in the long run, which is why cell phones plans work as they do. We get a "free" cell phone, but spend the next two years paying for it with our phone contract. That's not how they do it in Europe. There you buy your phone, then contract only for the service. The phones are initially more expensive, but cheaper in the long run. We do the same thing with cheap non-repairable merchandise, health care, law enforcement, and education. Go for the cheap option now and let the future be damned. Tom
if only we had the money to pay up front for long term savings. we are in such a hole from years of up front savings and long term costs.
They make more MONEY! That's not a liberal tenet! :nono: We should think preschool over before we create more selfish taxpaying rich capitalist! I say ban preschool.
Hmmmm, that contravenes the present thinking of spend more! It sounds a bit subversive to me, where's Obama's "Civilian National Security Force" when you need'em?
