Hi guys, I bought a used Toyota Prius last winter and when the weather became hot I tried to use my AC and it worked well for a while before the Ac light FLASHING and then the AC doesn't work but the fan still working and the air became hot more than the outside tempreature !! And that only happen when the weater tempreature is 30c or over !! So I took it an AC tec and he told me he couldn't do anything to it because it's a hybrid car and it uses 600W Ac, so I took it to the Toyota dealer and they looked at it and they didn't know what is the exact problem so they told me I need to change the clutch relay and if it didn't work then I need to change the Magnetic Clutch and that will cost me alot of money and even they are not sure if that will fix the problem !! Any Idea or suggestion ?? Thank a lot
You need to get a dealer to read the DTC codes. Post the codes here, and we may be able to help. See if the dealer you visited can give you the codes they pulled. If they don't have them, go to another dealer & ask for them for the AC. I just realized this is a 2001. I don't know if they have AC codes like the Gen 2.
generally good AC Tech can tell you many things about your Air Conditioning system just from hooking up his hoses and reading the dials. It has nothing to do with the type of car it is. Usually they will not charge you for this, but only charge you when they they actually do a service or repair. All AC Techs are not alike, you talked to a guy that apparently fears electricity. Go see other AC people! That is not to say Bisco is incorrect, but you will pay to have the codes.
