In a word, YES! Both are accurate and obtainable. 13 to 16 EV, perhaps. And in my humble opinion, we'll see people on Priuschat blow past 55mpg without effort. 60+ combined would be more like it for casual, commuter traffic. I kick myself now for not doing any no-EV tests in the PHV. I really would have loved to be able to provide side-by-side comparisons of my 2004 and the PHV. I guess I'll (we'll) just have to wait until I get my PHV. Maybe if I beg to Toyota enough. . .
I'm confused: many people here, including me, are >55mpg in a non-PHV Gen-III. Is there some reason to think the PHV would give deliver less than that, for us at least?
There's no reason to be confused, I-I Owner. I never said we would achieve lower mileage, just that 55mpg is low-balling for some of us. Consider yourself part of the hypermiling collective and take it as a compliment.
First, I want to thank TonyPSchaefer for answering my question. I have read all of Tony's posts including his PHV experience. I am holding on to an '07 Camry till the Prius PHV. I know Gen II & III drivers get that kind of mileage in cordless Prius, but, specifically I wanted to know is it too optimistic on my part to hope for an OFFICIAL EPA RATING of 55mpg combined mileage after the 13 EV miles, not blended with the EV. I think the mileage after the EV depletion is very important. To me, the 13 or so miles is fine, but a combined of 55mpg or more on regular gas will put this car almost 20mpg more per gallon than a Volt on HV mode on premium gas.
He obviously never read our threads, in the Gen III PHEV sub forum. From our test drives, he'd already KNOW those numbers are conservative : http://priuschat.com/forums/toyota-...ric-vehicle-prius-test-apples-vs-oranges.html The cool thing is, soon the PHEV will be on the road, and so common, we won't even thing they're worth the discussion time. :thumb: .
Thanks for taking me back to the link and detailed info of your experience with the PHV. I am only trying to guess and can't wait for the final EPA numbers of the Prius PHV, especially in HV mode. Hopefully we will know in September. While the Volt gets 37mpg in HV mode, if the PHV were to get; dare I say 55 or 57mpg combined EPA rating in HV mode, IMO, that would seriously cripple Volt sales.
